EX 2 Question???

Mo the darkened area means on. I am reading from Andy's Explorer and E-Trac Handbook pg. 30&31. When there are multiple targets under your coil then Andy reccomends fast ON so the machine can process good and bad targets faster. Unless you are strictly looking for shallow targets the preferred choice for DEEP is ON. There is a lot of information in this book regarding relic hunting with the Explorer's and E-Trac. I have a friend that only uses an Explorer II hunting civil war relics. He sold his SE Pro because he liked the older Explorer for the type of hunting he does and the next time I see him I will ask him about his favorite settings. He hunts all over but mainly in middle and east TN but his settings may help. HH :minelab:

Yep!

I run BOTH fast and deep OFF.

I hunted with fast and deep both ON for a full year...and did well.

I also hunted with Fast ON deep OFF for a while and did well.

Once I switched Fast and Deep BOTH OFF though...I started finding deep walked over silver and injun's like never before.

For me...fast ON clips the good signal short...and I don't like it.

For me deep ON distorts the signal too much...and I don't like it.

I already have my gain jacked to 10...so there is no need for me to have deep ON anyway.

Just my opinion and what I prefer. We all have our preferred settings.

There is NO right or wrong way...only the way that each of us as individuals prefer.

Andy's book is a wealth of knowledge and he personally explains many why's and why nots...as well as having opinions and settings from hunters of all types. It might be the best $20 or so that you ever spend on metal detecting.

I agree Bryce. Fast degrades the targets to much!

Mark, when shaded, the option is on. I have used every Explorer since they came out and I have to agree with Bryce. I never hunt with fast on, but prefer to hunt with fast and deep off. I have had some success with hunting with deep on, but I have found the high pitch "warble" of silver to be slightly different sounding. The Explorers are funny beasts. Some people have very good luck with settings that others dismiss as a waste of time. For instance, I never noise cancel unless I get an inordinary amount of chirping. Sometimes I will "cancel" , but most of the time, I will just go to semi auto sensitivity. There are many arguements over this practice, but as said before, use "what works for you". It is hard to beat any Explorer, even the original XS's.

I am always careful of what I say about what works for me with my Explorers. In my original post I talked of "noise cancelling" and my use of "auto sensitivity". I use the noise cancel feature when I run into interference whether it is from underground, over head, or near by. When I encounter this, I will noise cancel the detector. I hold the coil straight out from my waist and then hit the noise cancel button. If I am getting chirping from hot rocks, cinders, or an over abundance of trash, I will switch from my normal manual sensitivity to "auto sens". I just wanted to clarify my previous post. Again, the Explorers are very forgiving detectors and I have found that what works for me might not work for the next person. R.L.
