Everyone's favorite modes and settings and techniques

SInce I am new to the CTX, I haven't had much experience with it yet, or the understanding of the difference modes. I have been using the stock coin and high trash modes, which have been working fine so far. I am curious what is everyones favorites, certain modes for certain areas and your techniques for swinging. I bet we will see a lot of different answers to this, so please be as specific as possible, thanks.

I would tell you this. Try them all out and see which one works the best for you and your sights.
Bill S. from dirtfishing did a video awhile back cycling between the different settings. That really
got me thinking and I started testing them myself. I found that combined worked the best for me with
ferrous coin, deep on, gain at 30, pinpoint trace, target trace, auto +3 in trashy park or silver program by Digger.
Test, test, and test some more.

Also what helped alot was watching all the youtube video's. HH

Thanks for the advice, I am just really curious as to hear what everyone is using. And whats working for them, as there are so many different modes and settings. I keep on reading about how this mode or that mode works great for them.

vanbibr, I am going to check out those videos.

Bart, I was talking to Evan, and he was explaining his modes to me and seems like they will really produce.

They will produce. It REALLY open up the CTX when you use them. I would stick with 1 programs whatever that may be for awhile to you really get a handle on it. Swapping around all the time will really slow down your learning curve.

Exactly. I use Evan's program 99% of the time. If I'm in a really trashy area, I just add some discrimination. The only thing You may need to adjust is the sensitivity depending on your location. I usually keep it at +3, but sometimes I've dialed it down to +2

I think after hooking up with Jimzilla groundcoin is better where we detect. Gonehuntings settings are good in the iron pits. Except sometimes I discriminate more if the iron gets a bit much. I have no issues using auto+3 and will use it until I cannot hear a target someone is hearing in manual. I'm convinced auto is just fine here but that is just my opinion. I have not really used 50 tone as of yet so all I can say is that I love combined. But I was pretty much always a TTF Etrac user anyways. Everyone is different and has different situations to deal with and that is why the CTX is an outstanding machine. Its like a Marine.....it adapts well. LOL

Everyone else has provided great advice on settings, but I would like to touch on technique. If you are new to the Minelab FBS series of machines, then I recommend a "low and slow" sweep style. Unlike other brands and machines, where a moderately fast sweep will net you better depth, the FBS machines do better with a slow, steady pace. Think of the tortoise in that classic race against the hare: slow and steady wins the day. A faster speed with the CTX will not necessarily result in a missed target, but the TID is much more accurate with a slow, low swing in terms of the actual target and the target depth.

Try a few sweeps in your test garden to get the picture. I have found that, on average, the TID number is off by about 3 or 4 on the CO number, and depth is innacurate by about 3 inches with a fast swing.

The FBS series of machines are super at sniffing out finds in trash and deep finds at solw sweep speeds. You wouldn't want to miss that sweet 1800's silver at 7" in iron, would you??

ironman, that is excellent advise. I have been hunting with a whites detector for years and it is taking me some time to adjust and slow down, but I am seeing that what you say is true and Bart told me that from the very beginning, when I first bought my CTX and I can see that it is true. I have to keep reminding myself to slow down and enjoy that sweet sound of silver or gold.
