Since I'm still considering the purchase of a 1350, I went back and read many of the posts regarding this machine. I was disappointed to learn from Mary at Garrett that there was no plan to make the 5x10 elliptical coil available on the 1350 and that coil has become my favorite on the 2500 even at the expense of losing the imaging capability.
Now regarding the pinpointing on the 1350. If I understand correctly, you pinpoint on the 1350 much like you do on the Ace 250 - you move the coil side to side to find the strongest signal then pull the coil back until the signal disappears and then the target is directly beneath the "T" at the top of the inner coil. Is that correct? If it is, that's pretty much exactly how you pinpoint with the 5x10 elliptical.
So....if it looks like an elliptical coil (oval-shaped) and pinpoints like an elliptical coil then regardless of what they want to call them, the Ace 250 and the 1350 have stock elliptical coils.
...and... the 1350 will give me BOTH sizing AND the elliptical coil - the best of two worlds!!!
Now I'd like to know if the Ace 250 and GTP 1350 coils are as good as the 5x10 on mineralized ground. I've been places where the imaging coils are pretty much useless because of mineralization. Should you make the mistake of letting your coil touch the ground in these places, you will get a continuous overload tone - unless you're using the 5x10 and then it's no problem.
I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this... And for anyone that has a 1350, I'd appreciate it if you'd do a little test for me to see if what I'm thinking has merit. Please take a good target like a quarter or half and do some airtesting on the 1350. If you wave the target side to side under the coil and the only area to give you a tone is near the midline from front to back, then I'm good to go and I'll be getting my 1350 shortly.
If not, I'm back to the drawing board!
Thanks for taking the time to real all this!
