Ever wanted to make your own Headphones!

Hey Doug,
I used those same directions and just couldn't get them to work ! I know it is me, have very limited knowledge of electronics. When I find some one with the knowledge, I'll have them looked at and see what I did wrong. Can only get a faint sound out of the :rage: Headphones. For now they are in a box in my man cave:rofl:

Craig,
I just found this link and thought I would post it,....It looks like the phones he made in the
instruction has a Mono cord... I think that is a Mono cord....

I had no problems with the volume, mine were too loud at max with the 600 ohm speakers, actually had to use them at min. volume. And yes I have used a mono cord set-up in the instructions.....you may have not hooked up the wires correctly??

No! I just found the mod and posted....will do one later...

I had a pair of depthmaster superphones 2001 that the cord was shorting out intermittently.
So I decided to rebuild them in a new set of HOWARD LEIGHT Thunder-29 Folding Ear Muffs.
Like the ones shown in the mod above...(photo Below).
I actually like the Superphones but had trouble with them working on my X-Terra
so I will try to find a way to make them work.....If anyone is interested
I have a few extra sets of the Howard Leigh thunder 29'S available soon...
They don't make these anymore....

All for beach hunting, Water proof with Doc's Treasure screamer Amps, and One with Tiger Amp..Doc's by far is the best. Gel Pads for comfort, Bulgin IP 68 connectors, Peltor earmuffs, the Best by far for outside Noise..31 db rating...the only changes I'll be making this winter after a couple years of use is the toggle switch..keeps getting flipped on by accident running the 9 volt battery down on the amps

Excellent Work Beechnut
I had a Pair Of Depth Master 2001 superphones for sale here awhile back. Had them sold but when I tried
them out the cord had a short in it, so I sent the gentleman back his money and decided to rebuild them
with a set of Ear muffs I found on the web. Here is the finished product....Also! if anyone wants the two
shells I have (old superphone and Black Magic) I will send them to you for the cost of shipping only!
The Thunder 29's are Top Notch and it made a world of difference in sound and comfort...No selling them
now..I wired them to work on my Minelab X-Terra but plan on installing a Mini Connector so I can use them
on my White's detectors also! I also installed a 1.5 volt AA battery in the left ear cup to power the amp! Should
last allot longer than the button battery,.....

I started with these 2001 superphones

After removing the components from the superphones shell (Bilsom Muffs) I made a simple diagram
of the wiring.

Then I started to drill the hole's needed in the thunder 29's.
I had to countersink the hole where the Pot's were installed
because of the thickness of the Muffs

After installing all the internals from my Depthmaster 2001 superfones into a Pair of muffs. I decided
to take on the task of building my own headphones with the help that others have posted here and there on the web.

Below is photos of what I have done so far! Not quite finished but hopefully not long!

Aquaseal is the best, slow dry

Thanks for the offer on the HP''s duggr, and a great job on those 29's..

I located a Brand New set of DepthMaster SuperPhone II's and as usual the Muffs they used were
Terrible! So I installed all the parts into another set of Thunder 29's. The first pair i modded
were the 2001 depthmaster's and were hardwired to work on my minelab only! This time
I used the ratphone cord set-up so I can simply switch the cord around to work in both my
Whites and minelab detectors...The Superphone II's used a slide switch located on the back
side of the right ear Cup to power on and off the Amp inside. I used another AA battery
located in the left ear cup to power the circuit, just like i did in the 2001's..
I Really Like These. I sold a Like New set Of RatPhones for these and I can say I now have
the Volume to Hear......
