Ever planted a Coin Cache?

Wondering if anyone else has.
On the day before we moved from Atlanta I planted a cache of about 60 zincolns in some film canisters in the backyard.
I figured I didnt want them (they were dug locally and had too much rot on them to use) and maybe one day theyd give some detectorist an exciting few moments. :clapping:

When I was 12 I buried a coffee can on our property with some coins and other junk in it. Im now 38. I wonder if its still there.

Anyone else?

:wiggle: LOL that's funny,
I've never buried any treasure myself, but I think I might do something similar with my rotting zincolns that I'm accumulating soon.

Yeah I think the next time I do it, Ill plant it at a local park.
More likely to be found by a metal detector there.

Haha..thats funny.
Whats the process for that?

Granted I still would have planted the cache because its fun. :)

All I have is about 500 of the slimey things. Coinstar won't even take them!!

Yeah would love to hear. Lately Ive been leaving them behind in their holes.
I hate parks nowadays.

Ok Western and Eastern Treasures , July 1995 Minimum coins to send in 1lb. At that time price per pound was 1.4585. You can call (215) 597-4983 or 4984. Probably best to get a group of detectorists together and send in a large lot. These pennies go to ;the mint in Philidelphia. I am sure the amount they pay has changed but I haven't called. You can also send in bent coins and multilated coins, dimes and quarters can be combined but pennies and nickels should be seperated. You can send in a mixed bunch but they pay a lot less.

I have sent in bills I found underwater to The US mint, I found 1200.00 in 100.00 bills and the only thing left of one of the 100.00 bills was Franklin. The rest were nearly destroyed. I got 1200.00 back.

I also have around here somewhere, (lost in the move) In a box somewhere, is a money clip with all that is left of the bills inside the clip. Looks to be around 6 - 10 bills. As soon as I find that it gets sent off also. I will get what they have detemined was inside,

If your diving and come across bills that are multilated, get as much of the bills as possible, write a note as to how you came across them and they WILL determine how much money you found and will send a check. Just because you have a quarter of a hundred dollar bill LOL in my case a picture off of one, doesn't mean you won't get the whole hundred back. I wish I would have taken a picture of the bills, looks like fish ate all the edges and as much as they could.

Why not start a tradition of caching some bad coins (where feasible and allowed) and include a not as to who we were and what machine we used along with the date. The finder could rebury it there or somewhere else (again, where it won't present any problems) and ad to or replace the info in the cache.

I'm going to start hording what film canisters I can from yard sales etc, and maybe consider doing this as long as it doesn't get out of hand or cause frustration among other MDers. I'll wait though to see what reaction I get from the suggestion.
