Ever had this happen???

Had an old house site (1845) all lined up, with permission granted, for my vacation in October. The old house site sits across the street from my sister's house. Well, my sister emailed me that the owner of the old house site has changed her mind!!! Seems she told her son she granted me permission to hunt and he went ballistic and now the hunt is cancelled. :veryangry:

Moral to the story: when you get permission to hunt, you better get busy and hunt right away before the winds change!!!

Hawkeye Jim.

You nailed it with your last sentence.....get busy as soon as you get the permission if possible. There are all kinds of reasons people might second guess that they said OK. Maybe they see ya bending over alot & they start to think your gonna tear up the lawn? Or they begin to imagine we are putting gold coins in our pockets every dig & won't share ;) Sons that get involved are usually bad news.....I lost a 1690's tavern site I had permission from the elderly parents because a son just plain didn't want me there for whatever reason? Told his parents I was "disturbing the grass". Often folks imagine we know something they don't......like we found out there was a cache buried there or something. With sons, maybe they want to get a detector themselves, or know an uncle/friend who has one & they wish to dig the imaginary "treasure chest" up themselves. We had another neighbor once convince the lady homeowner to toss us.......then we saw him trying to hunt the yard with a Bounty HUnter he'd just bought! :punch: Losing that 1690 tavern killed me......especially since the first few hours offered 2 large cents, a British Cartwheel penny, and that full gilt 1812 Navy button back in my 1266x days :ranting:

EVERYBODY knows that the gold coin goes in your shoe and you limp back to the car grinning like a mule eating briars  I've had a few wives turn me away after the husband has given the OK. :veryangry: I wanted to ask the guy just who wears the pants around there. Hey I gotta go.........my wife is calling me

Yep - won't make that mistake again - next time I gain permission for a good site, ole Hawkeye's gonna be right on it!!! HH

 That's a good one Tony - usually I have pretty good success gaining permission - this was the first one this year I lost out on - been grinding on me all day!!!

think they have a big set of eggs and have a need to protect/impress their elderly parents by steering away anyone that might harm them or their property. You see these Nits all of the time. Usually so insecure they can't/won't tell you to your face, they just make darn sure their parents relay their "protecting their parents" policies.

One time we saw a colonial home with a plaque on it that said "built in 1777". Better still, there was a hay field in front that was just cut :surprised: So we knock on the door & an older guy answers, & we go though our routine. The guy say's; "I don't mind, but...Honey these guys want to metal detect". Of course the wife came to the door & said no way......claimed others might see us & then everyone would be digging there. I should have asked if we could try it at night, then nobody would see us.....but I'm sure she would have come up with another excuse. You can just tell when folks plain don't want you on their land. I love when they pull the "liability" card....that happens alot when they don't want ya there.......
Oh well.....
