Ever get frustrated?

Do you ever just get so frustrated by all the sounds coming out of your detector that you just wanna wrap it around the closest tree? I do, and i reminded myself this morning why i dont hunt in the local parks much. My hats off to you guys that can handle it. My soil must be just terrible and combined with some very trashy dirt, the noises coming into my ears get old fast. All the one type blurps that you swing back to check that seem to disappear or else decide to null and occasionly give a nice bleep. I dont know how you guys can run your sensitivity high, i was running manual 20 and it was too eratic. I always end up running in semi auto in parks because i just cant stand all the noise, i found 3 zinc pennnies in an hour. I think im gonna stick with huntin in the old fields where theres no modern day trash to contend with. I still cant seem to ever run my sensitivity much higher then that, it must be in the soil. And i hope since all the coins i find in these old pastures around old schools are usually under 5 inches deep, that this doesnt mean my detector will only get that deep. I hope it just means nothing is sinking more then that because i cant even remember the last time i dug or even seen my depth meter below the halfway mark. I am hoping that by getting a 10x12 sef coil that i will be able to run a little hotter and smoother. Sorry for the rant, but somedays it is not very enjoyable having a detector that is so sensitive and parks that have so much trash in them. Tomorrow i will be back at an old school or farmstead hoping to dig up some more old coins, Happy hunting everyone

Sam, I occasionally have to tell my Explorer to "shut up !" ... it does get irritating. And today my X-1 probe quit on me. Not sure if it can be saved yet. Anyhow I managed to scare-up a '39 washington quarter and some wheats .. that helped get me through the frustration.

I reset mine to factory default today just to try this and immediately found a 1941 merc and 1953 rosie 10 feet apart, go figure. I did turn the threshold down a couple notches and the volume down to 8; the only two changes I made to the factory default. The two coins were roughly 8 inches depth.

Sam, you pretty much described the first 10 mins of every hunt for me. It's allot like starting a car on a really cold morning. Then the machine seems to warm up, my ears seem to warm up, and effective hunting really begins. JJ

Sam,don't be afraid to turn the sens down.Youll still get good depth.Max sens doesn't always mean max depth.Cutting back will also help with target separation. The other thing is to go to a smaller coil.Minelabs 8"coil is 7 1/2" and works fine for me in trashy areas.I think Sunray might have a 5 for really bad areas. Also ,keep your threshold just audible. And`dont give up the ship`!....It took me a while to get use to my explorer and now I have 2....I use them on land and in the water(fresh +salt)without a problem, without having the sens cranked up...good luck,Ralph
