just curious if anyone has ever found a fruit jar or other container full of old coins before? i never have found one personally, but know of a spot that many jars of silver were found when bulldozing an old house a couple years ago. the story was in the paper and although no totals were mentioned in the story, i heard it amounted to several thousand dollars worth of coins. i think there are still jars of coins left there but hell would freeze over first before you could get permission to hunt it. let's hear some stories about your finds or someone you know who found a cache...........thanks...........roger
barnaclebill, that is is an incredible find. i don't understand why he would agree to no compensation if he found the cache. maybe he wouldn't get the chance to search for it otherwise, but a 10% finders fee would have been fair. thanks for sharing that awesome find...............roger
Yes, I found a cache when I was about 8 or 9 yrs old.
This was about 1956/57, I was playing with some matchbox cars in my Grandfathers flower bed in the back yard.
I was messing around in the dirt and uncovered a mason jar full of V Nickles that my grandfather had buried in the flower bed
I took them inside and I remember distinctly what he said "Damn Boy you dug up my V Nickles"
He gave me one of them, and I still have it today. I would imagine that he reburied them, there probally still lurking around that old house somewhere as he died rather suddenly from Diabetes complications. This has always been in the back of my mind, when hunting around old houses but have never found one with a metal detector.
But I'm sure many are out there to be found

Yes, and as a matter of fact it was with a Tesoro machine.
Many many years ago when I had my first Tesoro Bandido II uMax I was detecting around an old old abandoned house and down about 10" next to a old dead tree I found an old rusted tobacco can. Wrapped in an old oily rag and sealed in what was left of the tobacco can, were 4 silver dollars, 4 silver quarters, and an old rusty pocket knife. I just had the gut feeling that at some point in the history of this old house, some little boy had buried this treasure. When I saw that it was an old rusty can of some sort, I almost just went ahead and covered it back up, ................ but something just told me to go ahead and dig it up to throw it away. I am sure glad I did.
Finding that little cache was a real thrill and something I remember each time I see a Tesoro machine.
