Even though I know better, I still dig too many of em.

I'm hunting a Infinium PI. (1 yr.) And the tones are simple enough. Hunting along I darn well know when I hear a pull tab. And when I hit a nickel , most of the time I can just feel it. Than dig all iffy signals. So way too many times even tho I know better, I still dig too many tabs. What about you more Sabie hunters , still doing this?
I have experienced that those tabs will sometimes mask a good target.

I dig those pulltabs on my PI. A small bent gold ring can mimic a pulltab. Now if I am in an area loaded with them, I move away from that area, as I figure the densities of pulltabs tend to settle in the same location along the shore and shallow water. Gold will be deeper, and not have been scattered so close to the pulltabs.

That's a real good topic you brought up, especially using a PI. We have limited discrimination abilities with those machines, so any new information really helps.

I have been known to "Cherry Pick" but only when in a place were digging is very difficult, I do not have much time, or there is so much trash. Even if I am 99% sure it is a Pull Tab, 1% says it might be gold. I have been fooled more than once. If you leave the low-hi tone you will be leaving most silver also. Using Infinium or ATX.

I love the pull tab signals. I smile every time I dig one because it means I'm doing it right. It's just a waiting game, a ring will show up eventually. How often a ring shows up determines if the beach/spot is good or not. I could dig pull tab signals all day.

Go to Puerto Rico, is you want to dig pull tabs. I pulled up over 300 in one day!
In the week I was there I only dug ONE gold ring. Somebody must know how to cherry pick. OR I went to the pull tab haven of all times.

I average much better than that in New England's waters.

I like nickles much better than pull tabs. When in Canada...I LOVE the Loonies and Twonies.
High value coins makes a Hunt's take rise dramatically.

No way anyone is picking out gold rings from the pull tabs, especially the smaller gold rings. 300 in one day is a ton but that sounds about right for a vacation spot where people pop sodas all day! Gold doesn't care how much junk is around it!

Where did you hunt? I used to live there. I can put you on some great spots.

It was a LLLLong day at Boqueron back in 2009. It was unbelievable: multiple pull tabs in many scoops.
Four of us detecting in the water, and NO GOLD at all that day! And nothing to say for the long drive we had going back to the hotel. The lack of good finds and the great food we had along the way made for a memorable and enjoyable day. We still talk about the trip. The next day we found out were the tabs come from: they grow on sand trees! NOTE: the photo was NOT staged.
