evaluation on an ULTRA GTA 1000

The "All metal" mode isn't true al metal as it still goes through some filter.
You can still get the 12.5", 8.5" and 4.5" colis for it. It's not as deep as some of the newer units but should go 6" on a penney with the standard 8.5" coil. The Auto "Ground Balance" will handle moderate soil mineralisation but not the high mineralisation. It isn't very compatible with a salty beach but few VLF units are. If you have the sensitivity set too high it will give you falsing.
Depending on the price and accesories you didn't waste your money. When you start finding things you can save up to get a higher end unit.
I like my old GTA1000. Post up your finds.

Not a bad machine, but lacks the newer technology Garrett has incorperated into their machines. The ultra model doesn't have the Poweremaster circuitry, which gives it 20% less depth then the newer GTAx 1000. The ACE 250 is a much better machine, gets better depth, is lighter and loses less batteries.

Very good machine and Garrett's mainstay for several years. Course it's yesterdays news now but still a good coin getter.

i sent mine into garrett a few years ago to have a new faceplate because i scratched mine.and they some how up dated mine with a new chip or something and it runs smoother and is a little deeper.i still use it occasionally.its a great machine.

I found this in an old cabin, the coins on it appear to have dates, 1340, 1345, 1349. the seams are soldered. I don't know if this is some kind of replica or what? Is it a powderhorn? Any guesses or info would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark Stevens aka Kram Snevets
