Euro Sabre Saved the Day

Got up at 5:30 am and made the school yard by 6:30am. No rain last night, expected to find hard dry ground...Blue skies and the sun was out in full force.

Found several area that were dig-able where you wouldn't need a pick axe to get down to the targets.

Today decided to use my PI first and see what this place has in it. Has been detected by numerous people who found some sporadic finds. I took the challenge of coming back in.
I dug a lot of trash hoping for some gold, after 3 hours decided I needed to stop and get a drink of water. After my drink, headed to the very far side of the school yard, about 300' away.
Turned my PI on and got going, had to adjust the frequency a few times as well as my threshold. Figured on some EMI over there that needed to be adjusted for. Target response was pretty fuzzy.
Did find a dime, before the PI started to act up a bit more. That made for a short hunt, haven't charged the batteries for about 4 weeks. Trucked back over to my car and pulled out the Tesoro Euro Sabre
after putting the PI in the trunk.

Headed back to the same area again, armed with the Euro. The Euro loves small foil that my PI will ignore and I had enough of digging tons of trash, getting very hot out....Cranked up the disc just a hair past foil, then hunted
using all metal mode and disc modes for target checking. Took me a bit to get used to using the Euro again after using my PI. Once I got into the groove and started to find some coins, all was good. So I spent 1 1/2 hours
repeatable and iffy targets. The iffy targets were mostly the Canadian clad dimes and some nickels. Yes some trash was dug as well.

Was at my limit with the sun and heat and decided to quit for the day.

sven that Mirage is a close second, I see what you say on the mirage when the battery gets low its getting hungry and gets grumbly, your conditions are about the same as mine . I like the comparison did you hunt at 1/2 PD on the P,I

Good digging Sven,

It seems that the trash to coin ratio is very close with both machines, the PI pretty evenly matches the VLF in this hunt.

Well.... If there was gold under your coil, you would have found it with either machine!
Btw, your PI is equal or better than any machine I own in bad electrical interference, at least so far.

Some interesting finds, the Mirage apart from the flat battery produced the similar amount of finds/rubbish which tells me how good the PI machine is.

Also another interesting piece of information from this post is that you used AM mode mainly then flicked over to Discrimination mode, this method i had not even thought about till i looked at a video on YouTube of a guy using this method and it did make alot of sense. On my LaserB3 which is based on the Bandido range the AM/Disc switch is easyly placed so that one can used this method very easy.So thanks for highlighting this method as it does make alot of sense, will also use it on my Silver Sabre11 when on a roman trashy site as that is when this method really could come into play.

Looks like you gave it a "good swing" by the range of targets you dug. I've always wanted to try a PI unit but have only used VLF machines...maybe someday. When I first started detecting with Tesoro's I got into the habit of using the spring-loaded retune/all-metal/discrim toggle switch to help aid in deciphering targets along with thumbing the discrimination. I still do even today out of curiosity with some questionable targets but find myself today mainly hunting in disc. mode at the minimum setting and just using my ears from there along with raising and lowering the coil over suspected targets. If I get into areas where the targets are few I like to switch to all-metal at times with the original Bandido to hear all targets in range. The heat is on for most of us now....stay hydrated and good hunting to all!

Good point , I found the mirage is immune to E<M<I i had the silver trying hard to get a 7" dime and a power line was under it but the mirage was as smooth as silk . I think the Vaquero was one that was doing a bit better in EMI so in the spots you can't hunt the P,I is your option

One of these ultra rare and possibly one of the best Tesoros the Euro Sabre's are on Ebay at the moment, that one is in superb condition,a good buy for someone.

I thought that must have been Sven's as there was mirage pi stuff for sale by the same seller , shows what I know, anyway wish I had the cash but how many machines does one need :poke:

So the one on ebay is yours?

Yes, it grabs attention and shows people what great detectors Tesoro has made over the years and has a dual purpose to draw people over to my website.
They get to see all the other cool Tesoro units they missed out on. I'm just giving some one the chance to try a Euro if some one is so motivated. Otherwise,
its a keeper, it has friends here to look after it.....and it doesn't eat much.....sometimes just talks too much...:lmfao:

There were no takers, guess it's just too intimating to own.
So the Euro Sabre is going to stay. It has a nice, clean home with plenty of food......................
Will have to take it out for a walk in the park... Of course people will stop and stare. The brave will get closer to ask a few questions.
The bulk of the people will keep a wide berth and stay away.

And yes, it drew many visitors to my website.

I found it interesting that the PI overlooked tiny foil. Is this for all PI's?

Depends upon calibration, Pulse Delay, Pulse Width, Frequency.....search coil and what it was designed to find.
The Mirage was not originally intended as a general all purpose machine like most hobby consumer PI's.
It was designed to find very small tiny gold nuggets and gold jewelry at max depth in mineralized soils.
What you lose is performance, sensitivity, depth on higher conductors such as silver compared to other PI's.
But, performance towards high conductors is acceptable when compared to a VLF machine.
And if you want to find a stainless steel 1-2 quart coffee pot at 24", it will do it with the 7" coil.
As a water unit, was my original reason for building it does the job. Works excellent on land as well. I hate digging small foil
in schoolyards, the Mirage solves that problem and still finds the gold that falls into the small foil range.

If your strictly after good nuggets, some changes can be made to the Mirage to find these tiny 3 grain gold nuggets at 3" or so.
Currently calibrated for small gold jewelry it can pick up my 1/16" x 1/4" gold nugget at around 4".

It's not a miracle machine, just another tool designed for a specific job.
