euro sabre depth test

Hello,

In a German review I came across some remarkable test results for tesoro euro sabre were published: http://www.jr-ortungstechnik.de/inline/test_eurosabre.htm

In another test (for tesoro tejon) results were compared with other detectors in a table: http://www.jr-ortungstechnik.de/inline/test_tejon2.htm

I've translated this table in English and calculated the measurements in to the Anglo/American system of inches.
++++ means very clear target sound; + means weak target sound, - means no sound at all.
In this test discrimination was set to eliminate iron nails. several objects were buried in forest ground (moderate mineralisation) a couple of years before. These object were:
a celtic silver coin (0.43" diameter), a Roman bronze coin (0.8" diameter),a bronze bracelet (2.8" diameter), a bronze age ax (7" long).
Although euro sabre scores average on the small coins, the results for the lager deeper buried object (bracelet and ax) are remarkable, especially compared to the other detectors in the test.

Now my question is: Is it normal for euro sabre to detects lager objects this deep. And if it is, does eldorado do the same because it's the same sort of detector?

Apologies for my bad English. Marc

I placed this message in the Fisher forum also (by mistake, sorry again)

very deep on large objects. I retrieved a clevis at 18" and it would have picked it up deeper. The signal was plenty strong.

Here's the clevis.

I have my doubts whether they had all the detectors set properly or fairly. Those would be two different things. A setting that is optimal for one detector is not necessarily set well for another. Just because the discriminator settings were attempted to be set to just reject iron doesn't mean that other settings were set properly. Some of the detectors didn't even have the same controls as others? Did they set those controls at medium or maximum? Was it set to equal the other detectors? How would they know that?

I would think the Tejon would go deeper than my Euro Sabre, but I don't know that for sure.

Cheers,

deeper...maybe, maybe not. I think the Tejon is deeper on the lower range (copper, brass, lead, etc.) but on the upper end I'm not so certain. Still, I agree unless you really know how the tests were conducted, what the soil matrix was, well you may want to take it with a grain of salt.

on a mule or horse. The one I found was hand made in a blacksmith shop. Here are some examples.

There are modern day clevises that work on tractors also.

Happy Christmas,

I think it has a lot to do with the 12X10 coil. When I use a 7" round concentric coil, it doesn't go near as deep on large objects, but with coins it's depth of detection matches the 12X10 with in an inch.

I have to be fealing my oats to lug that big thing around though. And then have to dig thoes deep holes.....:goodnight:

Thanks for putting the effort in to translate the test results Marc, I would like to see them do a test with rusty nails near and on top of those targets, then you would see the Tesoro's do some spanking. The Tesoro's earned their reputation in areas layered with rusty nails.

Colt, I actually found a test about target response near iron nails for various detectors.

http://www.staffsmetaldetectors.co.uk/iron_test.htm

As you can see, the tesoro detectors manage well when nail are put next to the target. Only some very expensive detectors actually locate the target underneath nails.
