I'm looking at the garmin website, but can't find any pricing. How much does the legend c and cx differ in price, and is there value for the money? Also, I can't find battery time on the cx, but the 36 hours on the c is attractive. I also think compass is good, but not at the expense of 16 hours batt. use. Input?

For prices, you have to contact dealers.
IMHO the removable memory on CX is worth some extra $ if you intend to load unit with detailed maps.
I expect the "C" and "CX" to have roughly the same battery life. The biggest memory consumers are back light, screen display and GPS chipset. AFAIK they are the same in both units.

Build in magnetic compass is nice and handy feature but, the build in compasses are not as accurate as old fashioned needles. Also, a needle does not need a battery to run...
