I went to a old fairground I had not hit in years on private property.Newest coins were 1916 and I think that was the last year in operation.

Very rocky flint ground and nothing over 8" and most at 4"-6" range but terrible ground as in trash and mineral.I ran in auto +3 at around 18.Basic coin pattern with trash, deep and fast all on.And I tried 4 tones and liked it as well as multi I had been using.

Also found a nice CW button that the landowner wanted along with the V nickle for his wife.I just about lost my cool when he took the button I gave him and took his pocket knife and cleaned/scraped it up!

Any info on the button would be apreciated very much. This sight was first used for CW veterans reunions and it may be related,Thanks Ray.

PS I was in a private bare pasture digging with a relic shovel or I could not have made this amount of recoveries in only 5 hours. My back and shoulders are telling me about it to.

I went by over a year ago to ask permission and the wife said no.It took me a while to get enough courage to go back and ask again hoping the man of the house was home(.I am the worlds worst when it comes to knocking on doors of strangers.)

He was and said he did not allow hunting on his property anymore but remembered my Dad and I and the fact that we always showed them what we found and gave them first choice .He said to go ahead and hunt this time.

That is one reason I hit it so hard for 5 hours non-stop without a break or drink as I was afraid it was a one shot chance.

However after showing them my finds and visiting a while they said I could hunt all I wanted as long as I came alone and then told me why they had stoped all hunting.

Several years ago someone had asked permission to hunt and was told to go ahead. The next day he flew to NY on business and that evening his wife called in a panic because when she got home their were over 20 cars filling their drive and barn yard. The next afternoon when he got home their were 18 cars blocking his drive, all belonging to detectorist who had not asked permission.

Needles to say he told them all to leave and never come back including the one who had asked and then called his buddies in. He said he would sure like to know what was found to attract so many so fast.

Their is a timbered area that was used a lot and I will hit it next time and see what else I can find.

Thanks for all the comments and happy to be able to share a small part of my hunt with you all, Ray.

That must have been one exciting hunt. Very nice, I'm curious though about what you found 25 year's ago there. If you are still finding these kind of coin's,you must of really found the stuff back then. Tell us more Ray-Mo.
Good hunting Gary
