I bought a new etrac with two extra coils 6' an 15"x18" an of course the standard 11" ..For now just been using the standard 11" the problem i been having is a lot of numbers on one spot 12's 13's 34's 16's 20's on the fer side doesn't ever stick to one # Granted a don't really know how to use it property most the time when i dig there is nothing there i did find a piece of metal an a alumium pipe Been hunting in my back yard,,I just wish it was a little more stable.. any feed back would be appreciated.

I'm not sure where you are located but.....
first find others who have etrac's and have them show you their methods and go
find a public park where there are many types of targets and get yourself familiar with the numbers and tones
you could try locating others through MD clubs and the forum, many here really want to help struggling new etrac users
the techniques i use are when i hear a good tone i slow down and go back and forth till I'm satisfied there is a target
and hopefully a good one, there's always planting a test garden with coins in your yard too
you need to go on the forum and forum class and read the Andy's book and practise, practise and practice
Good Luck and Happy Hunting

k when you get a signal make sure it is consistent and dig the ferrous numbers to 23-24
if there is junk in the yard it will throw the ferrous numbers off depending whats in the ground up to ten but the conductive numbers will stay the same
to start out u are going to dig a lot of phantom holes where there is nothing in the hole and that is most likely a iron false
just make sure the signal is good meaning the signal matches the swing if you have any problem pm me and i give you my number

Is there any place you can put in a coin garden? Place some common coins ie, copper penny, dime, nickel, quarter, in an area where this no other signal and just a solid threshold hum. Get them in the ground 6 inches or so (separate from each other) and practice listening, and pin pointing. I'd do this first.

To be honest with you, to me it sounds like several things could be happening.

1. You running in Quickmask and All Metal

2. You running in manual sensitivity and have it really high or maxed out.

3. You might have some EMI problem. If you have a spot where this a large buried electrical cable, sometimes that can be a problem. I've only had it happen to me a couple of times one was at a football field and the other was a fairground.

Another suggestion is to get a copy of Andy Sabisch's book on the Minelab Explorer and E-Trac handbook.

There are a number of videos on Youtube. Click on my link below and take a look. I've also subscribed to a number of other E-Trac users (Vidslayer, Neswiper, Goes4Ever, OhioCoinHunter,). These guys do some FULL digs as well and I think they're helpful to watch.

Main thing is that coin garden and see what's going on. Feel free to ask more questions...great group; always willing to help.

ok lets start with basics have you downloaded the emulator to help you around the screen
what programe have you put it on
are you using manual or auto sensitivity ok you will know this as when you swirch it on if it is on auto a circle will appear at the top of the bar with say a plus 3 or plus 2 in it that means you are in auto no circle means you are in manual if you are in manual hit either the left or right hand cursor and it will stop the number searching you are getting
answer these questions and we will see where we go from there and if it is electrical nothing will calm it down so you need to get away from that spot talk soon i wont say happy hunting as i know how frustated you will be at the moment but everyone is here to give you good advice stick in there matey

Definitely agree with NebTrac. Space some coins along the ground, far enough apart so your coil won't overlap, so you can hear what the ETrac sounds like and how the numbers read. Make sure you are in the factory coin pattern. Than go find a older park and have fun! There is a small learning curve with this machine, do not get frustrated with it early on, it is a great metal detector.

I'm a new ETRAC user. I started out using the preset coin mode, and found lots of clad. Stay in the coin mode until you have mastered that. Good luck.

Also use Automatic Noise Cancel
The Noise Cancel button instructs the detector to automatically listen to every channel and select the channel with the least interference. Automatic Noise Cancel may take up to 30 seconds. The detector will display the progress on the LCD display and a tune will sound at the end of this period. After the Noise Cancel is complete the chosen channel will be displayed momentarily and then the detector will resume normal operation.

Hold the detector 30cm (12

i understand what you guys are saying about the coins but it is no good putting anything down until we know what is making it unstable i mean there could be anything in the garden copper piping with brass connections or as already suggested as it is near a home electrical wiring now each case surely is individual and therefore my suggestion is to answer a few questions that have already been asked and find a new bit of ground away from his back yard and then we can start piecing together what is going wrong digging holes and putting in coins in a eratic environment is not the answer IN THIS CASE as for a newbie will be even more confusing happy hunting to you all

Hi, i like your comment! I myself is new to the e-trac. i just got it yesterday and I am having trouble. i put a Quarter, a dime, nickel, and a penny on the ground about 2 feet away from each other and and it picks it up no problem. then I buried the the coins in holes about 3-4 inches deep and the e-trac picks up the quarter and the penny and the nickle but for some reason I'm having trouble picking up the dime. It makes a sound but not the same as if it was on the surface. do you have any input on that? I don't know what i am doing wrong and I don't want to miss out on passing up dimes( especially if its a silver one). thank you and God bless.

I 'cleaned' one half of the front yard with my Whites 6000 prior to getting my E-Trac. Brand new, out of the box last week and I turned it on, noise cancelled, and ran it in the factory 'coin' program. Found another 4 pennys, 2 nickels, 2 dimes and a lone quarter. The key, to me, is to not screw around with the different settings til I get a bit used to it.

For a 'test garden' for the old Whites and the Excalibur I used wooden paint stir sticks, hot melted a bunch of different targets to them and went to a large sandy area for a test bed. Even marked the depth on each stick and what it was so I could do a bit of messing around with the different settings. Worked great. Tested the E-trac the same way with the same stir sticks.

That is a great idea... a keeper to use for this newbie!

Thanks guys for all your input i'am going to do a test garden first and see where take me..i will keep you posted Thanks again

Glad you showed up. I was beginning to think we were "typing to the wind". Let us know how things turn out.

It's all about location, persistance, and luck.

Simply put, if it's not there you won't find it.

As far as stability... if you have alot of junk in the ground it's going to certainly seem unstable. Try using auto in stock coin mode and go slow. Dig any signal that bings solid in each direction. Yes you will dig junk but if you think experienced users don't dig junk then... well you just got into the wrong hobby.

Good luck.
