Etrac, explorer, or safari

Ok i live in west central illinios and currently have a pioneer 505 ( yes i know its really low end) so my question is this. Between the three whats best to go with for hunting parks and mid to high trash areas? Does the extra processor speed actually make a diffidence in the etrac? Do they have good recovery speed between targets? Im looking to upgrade and want to make sure im getting the most bang for my buck when you start talking a 1000 to 1500 dollars.

I have both the Safari and E-Trac. Not much difference in depth because all have FBS technology. I would suggest the E-Trac because you can use it anywhere hunting anything. CW relics the Safari can hold its own and may be the best of the three. Minelab is discontinuing the Explorer line as of December 31 2012 so from what you are describing as far as where and what you will be hunting take a good look at the E-Trac. JMHO HH :minelab:

Any ideas about the processor? Why specifically mention the upgrade if it dosnt do anything diffrent, or is it used mainly for target identification?

I had a Safari for a few months - it's a great machine - upgraded to a E-Trac three years ago - hands down ... one of the smartest things I've ever done !

The E-Trac is balanced better ( a 15 degree handle angle change ) so it feels lighter then the Safari's - has better target I.D. - has more controls and settings -
and a very important feature to me ... has a lighted display panel for night hunting !

Good luck !

All im hearing are good things about etrac. And lets face it its leaps and bounds better then my pioneer 505. I will probably run with the etrac but in this and other forums i cant get an awnser to you what the uprgaded processor is for. I do like the 28way fbs and the target id but i would like to know more about what upgrades the etrac above the explorer. Wieght and size are comparable. But why did etrac set such a benchmark from other detectors?

I think you will find you need the upgraded processor for the extra features and visual ID system. The base technology is the same. As for the nitty gritty details I'm not so sure even Minelab is going to tell you that.

Yes the recovery speed makes it easier. Specially if you use much discrimination. Look for a used E-Trac o get you in your price range. Or give me a call with questions on all and ask or the Findmall deal! ;)

Main thing the faster processor in my opinion is for the faster recovery. It also has a better auto sensitivity with the + and - # you can run it in. Does more behind the scenes requiring more speed.

Feel free to give me a call with your specific questions. Love to help you. I have many hours on both.

If you are talking about depth and recovery they are all the same. The Etrac has a lot more bells and whistles which can come in handy if you know how to use them and do not get confused by the extra choices, but also can cause you to lose coins if you do not set it up right.I have had both detectors but run with Safari and SEF coil and and have walked behind guys running etrac and showed them the coins they are missing a lot of problem was them running Pro Coil in Iron site. The Safari basic settings make it a real coin hound and you are not questioning yourself all the time if you have it set up right.I have hunted about 60 hours with buddies CTX3030 covered sites that I have hunted with my Safari I am not too impressed with it he went back to using his Etrac. If you can get a good used Etrac for price of new Safari go ahead try and get some SEF coils with the deal.Regardless of what you do or buy you will almost double your depth. The thing that makes a Minelab detector a real killer coin detector is aftermarket coils make sure you order a good one when you buy your detector.Hunting LaSalle,Grundy,Will,Dekalb Counties,Illinois

E Trac.. I thought about the other options as well. I am so glad I went with the E trac. Call Bart and ask him any questions you have at Big Boy Hobbies. He is a good resource.
