Etrac Disc. patterns

Wirechief

New member
Hi Andy S., I am wondering when I want to make a disc. pattern on the smartfind of the Etrac, isn't it best to put the items I want to accept on the ground and sweep them? Thanks Andy. Good hunting to you.

John. Think about it. If you make patterns that discrim all the unwanted junk out, what happens to the possible treasure items that might have the same make up as the trash items.

Hi Tony, I understand but that is why I would want to make sure that the spot of ground was as clear from man made junk as possible to make up my disc. pattern. I have very specific items I would be looking for including gold coins. But I feel that if you don't have the soil in the pattern it isn't a complete pattern. Thank you very much Tony and good hunting to you!

John. If only metal detecting specific targets was that precise, then your needs could be easily catered for.

Alas, that is not so. As you suspect, there are other unquantified variables that may be encountered.

Depth of target in the soil affects the target's identity, and is further compounded by the degree of Fe mineralisation.

Add to that variable any other target in the detector's 'Field of view', and you have a 'disguised' target.

So it goes on and on, getting more complicated (possibly).

Recommendation then is:- "Be a metal detectorist, and not a Metal rejectorist", for the only certainty in detecting is what you have dug.

Howdy Marshall, I agree with you, get down and dirty and dig all:detecting:.

But it is a very interesting hobby isn't it.
