Etrac Batteries Question

So what does one need to know about the rechargeable battery pack with the Etrac?

Is it safe to leave them in the unit when not in use?
(I remember something about some batteries having a memory?)

Can I use only NiMH batteries in the recharger?

It would not hurt to leave the battery pack in the e-trac for a short time. (a few days) I think it's a good habit to take the battery pack out if you are not going to use it soon. You never know when batteries ( AA or rechargeable batteries) might leak and damage the detector.

Don't use any other battery charger, only use the one that came from Minelab. Because the battery pack is enclosed in a closed plastic case, it will over heat and damage the pack if you used a higher amp charger.

If you look at the charger from Minelab you will see it chargers at 15V DC @ 100 MA. This a trickle charging system. (slow) this way the pack will not over heat. There is also a small circuit card in the pack the works Minelab charger. You should not have any memory problems with the pack because it Ni-Mh batteries in it, and they don't have memory problems.

Just my take on your question

Great information here !!!!

If I am not out hunting. Mine are charging. Same battery since 08. Says it somewhere in manual that its ok to leave plugged in.

I'm with Bart. I charge mine after every hunt, which equates to about 2 or 3 times a week. I charge them overnight and unplug them in the morning. Sometimes, I forget to unplug them, but as Bart said, it will not hurt them to keep'em plugged in.

They sure cost allot but, then can last for years. I just rebuilt one the died after 9 years. I made it into a 2300 mAH pack.
