etrac and t2 experience please

New member
If you own or have had experience with both the etrac and t2 I would love your input. How are they compared to the other? My intention is for my first detector, used, beach, park, totlot for coins and jewelry. Maybe the off chance of nugget prospecting. I would hate to buy one then wish I bought the other first. Thanks for any input from the etrac guys.

I am a dealer but in my opinion I would go with an Etrac and be money ahead. The T2 I use in a few fields that I detect. Its a great relic machine and yes it goes much faster then the Etrac in recovery speeds, coverage and its lighter. I still feel nothing beats the Etrac in trashy areas and its the best silver slayer without a doubt.

You can use the E-Trac anywhere. The T-2 is a very good machine but EMI limits its use at times. Good luck on your choice and take the time to learn your machine and you will be rewarded. HH :minelab::fisher::teknetics:

That said..............Anyone who has read my posts knows I am 100% pro to T2 detecting.. What many do not know is I am also 100% pro to the E-Trac.. The E finds the treasures.... best there is in fact.. Simply put...Their awesome !!!

If for some reason you can not use the Etrac or other explores like myself !!!.....I found the T2 helped immensely with less aggravation of my shoulder. Far less in fact.Plus kept me in the depth levels needed for old silver recoveries and junk separation. I have read over, and over of shoulder issues causing pain swinging the heavy E-Trac for many who have tried them.. E-Trac's Weight, being the biggest issue or someone just not liking the E-Trac............the T2 will absolutely keep you in the hunt..

T2 has exceptional depth for single frequency, lightening fast recovery for separation. The most comfortable, lighter weight machine, perfect balance, and ease of swing for many hours in the field. The T2 allows detecting without the pain.. if the pain is caused by the weight of the E-Trac and the way it is made that causes the pain issues.. The T2 could resolve the problem.Of course if you have issues with health, or muscle problems ..nothing will stop your pain. Good medical treatment would be the order of the day...

So keep your health issues in mind when you select a detector.. That is all I am saying here..... E-Trac and T2 are a couple of the best on the market.....

Larry, hershy1, and elton. Thanks for the input. Seems there are many supporters of both the etrac and t2 and I can't really go wrong with either. Etrac seems to be prefered for target filtration with the expense of weight and cost. t2 seems to be prefered for lighter weight and maybe depth for a single freq machine. The community here is a fantastic source of expertise. Thanks again to everyone for the guidance.

First detector, etc...well, whats gonna happen is this...depending entirely upon your personality, your area, and a lot of other variables...which ever one you buy, you will wish you bought the other! Good thing is, any detector will teach you the basics about this sport, and you can always upgrade or sell without too much of a loss if any..
Unless you have a local club you can go to and actually try one out too see what fits you best, you will most likely go through a couple different units in a few years to discover that on your own...no biggie, its not like you are buying a bassboat or anything like that...you may find you just seriously enjoy slamming clad and jewelry, or you may find you like hunting deep old, and masked silver...we, or more importantly YOU dont know this yet...one things for sure, if you just stick with it and have a rabid desire to find metal, you will come across a machine that fits your personality, area, and style sooner or later...its hard to get one that "does it all", and if you get a few of them, if they are at least compatible regarding batteries, functions, and tones, it does make your life a lot easier. Theres a lot to this sport besides what machine to get, so get a halfway decent one right off the bat, and see if this is something you will like or not...that said, theres fellows out there hunting with "introductory" machines just killing it...and, theres guys that buy top of the line that give it up after a few times out, then, we get to buy your unused and expensive gear for a dime on the dollar from your widow some day!...I dont know if this helps you any, probably not, but Good Luck!

Some good points there mud. I imagine your right about me not realling knowing what calls to me till I actually get out there and try it. I'm in San Diego so deep silver would be harder to find as few locations. I'm gathering that historical locations are out as against the law. State parks are def out as are national parks. We have so many tree huggers here that you can't enjoy much of anything without getting their panties in a bunch over something. Some of these tree huggers are employees of city/county parks and even if there is no policy baring it they'll do their personal best to keep you from disturbing earthworms and such with your evil metal detector. I'm rambling now. The beach and some parks are about what's available around here so maybe my choices are made for me as far as detectors go. Thanks again for the advice Mud.

Great! San Diego! OK now we are getting somewhere! Theres a lot of great posters from your area, so you need to start talking to them and asking what would they do if they had to start over...some might be so gracious as to meet with you and show you some tricks, or try their gear maybe....Right now, about the only active members hunting in NA are Californians, Floridians, and a few other crazy inland guys you dont want to know anyway! So...cruise through the Forms and look at the active posters who are out hunting...they post nearly everyday...and it does not matter to you at this point what machine they use...you need some base knowledge about the gear and sport so your experience in it is a pleasant one, so just go ahead and post on those forums like you did here..."Hey, i'm new, want to get into detecting, I live in SanDiego and need some help"
Or something to that effect...I hunt parks and beaches here in West Michigan..for gold and jewelry mainly, and I pick up a few silver coins just on accident throughout the year...this will be my 4th year detecting come April, so I suspect you will become a hunter like this too for the reasons you mentioned...are you in relatively good health and spry? Thats a big deal too, since working heavy gear is not that much fun after a while if a guy has any health problems...we just need to know how to start you off right so hang out on the forums and start asking questions like you are doing...

Elton,Hershey1, and Larry know a whole lot more than me, and will get you set up if you let them.....:detecting:
Mud.

That is a fantastic idea Mud, it's def worth a shot. I would love to get to know locals in my area that are already doing what I'd like to do. I'm eyeballing a whites PI used right now for $500. I know starting off with a PI is not such a hot idea as I'll be digging alot but I really am thinking the beach is one of my main focus. I would have liked to start with a t2 first but the white's PI deal came up first...... I'm sooooo tempted.
