etrac and quarters

jtermz

New member
got the etrac this winter and have been putting many hrs in on it getting good at whats under coil but having a hard time with quarters they come in at 46/47 but with scratchy not solid tone just not loud and clear like dimes Pennys and nickles do you guys think I have a setting wrong

What does your pattern look like? If you're using a really tight pattern it could be causing the quarters to be scratchy. Are you air testing or on the ground?

Need more information;
settings?,
pattern?,
sensitivity?,
what do you mean by scratchy?,
coil?,
are you air testing or having problems with deep quarters?,
conductive setting?,
threshold pitch setting?,
variability setting?
limit setting?

I'll take a wild stab at it.
If you're using multi-conductive settings a quarter will produce a slightly higher pitch frequency tone than a dime or penny. If you have any hi frequency hearing loss that could be why the quarter tone is quieter but the 'scratchyness' thing is puzzling.
Try lowering the threshold pitch setting especially if its max'd out, play around with the limit and variability settings to see if it helps. All three of those settings affect how ID tones are generated.

Quarters produce the most easy to sound to me, I wonder if your ears are not hearing the high tone, like mentioned above....but on the etrac quarters literally scream out

My E-Trac SCREAMS at me when a quarter is within 8 inches of the coil, nearly blows the stock Koss hPs off my head...

I have found more silver quarters (10) in 3 months with the etrac than in 2 years with my ATP, and at the same hunting locations. Quarters always scream out to me with the almighty E.

I'd love to have a site clean enough to hear the scream of a silver quarter lol. You can dig a hole anywhere and pull out half a dozen square nails. TTF for me every hunt.
