Estimating depth with 4x6 dd Eclipse Shooter coil

I have been getting aquainted with my 4x6 DD coil, and I find it very advantageous for locations I've been hunting. However, I'm perplexed about its depth readings. I seem to get accurate readings when testing with a coin lying on the top of the ground. If I raise the coil 4 inches, the depth reading looks about right, etc. Coins in the ground give a different result, usually deeper than they actually are. Is there a way to estimate what the real depth is?

Thanks,

Royce

The meter is calibrate to read with the stock coil and for coins size targets, so using a smaller coil will show deeper than the actually are like a bigger object than a coin will show shallower than it is.
With the 4X6 coil from experience a 4 inch deep coin will show around 6 inches, so it will show around 2 inches deeper than it is.
