erratic sensitivity, need help

JM

New member
Hi all could some one help ,just purchased the CZ 3D but cannot raise sensitivity above 4 without it continuously sounding off erratic , detecting with two other CZ 3D users, they can easily use it at 8 on the same piece of ground ,they have tried to help, but not able to, by asking here first, before sending it back to First Texas from the UK .anyone help .also they ground balance on the same area with there detectors ,were my machine will not even when they try .

John

Occasionally I can't operate my 3D above a 4 sens because of electrical interference. But if your friends are right there with you and are using 3D's with the same size coil, you could have a problem. Have you tried another coil? Also have you tested the same buried targets to compare machines? Yours may be set up hotter from the factory than theirs. My 3D seems very hot as I normally have to run sens at 3-5 and I don't get any better depth running it any higher. I can still find dimes at 7" with the 5" coil. That's saying a lot in my soil.

HH, Jim

Hi Jim yes we have changed coils over, and the problem is still there, cant run it any higher than 4 at all ,and they cant ground balance the unit properly in the same ground as there detectors with any method used ,even changing coils .

Is it a comman thing for someunits to be set hotter than others and perhaps been set so much hotter will not ground balance very good ???

thanks for your help John

Also, how close are you to your friends in this scenario? I'm thinking crosstalk, but then, are your friends experiencing the same chattering?

HH from Allen in OK

Hi Allen, well apart, no cross chat, and the checks have been done when switching other detectors off.

It seems like the parameters of newer CZ's such as CZ70 and CZ3D have changed from previous CZ's rel sensitivity...and will go just as deep at 4 sens as older CZ's at perhaps 6 or 8 as I never was able to run a CZ at 9 or 10...I remember the first day I took out a CZ70 and from previous experience set it at 8 sensitivity as usually 6 or 8 worked well and it went crazy even at 6 and finally quieted down at 4..Believe me I thought I had a faulty CZ until I depth tested the CZ70 in my 15 year old test garden and found out the CZ70 set at 4 went as deep as an older CZ set at 8 and then knew I had a competent depth demon with new sens. parameters..Sort of puzzles me with your friends CZ3D's but then again imagine its all in the tuning..Heres what I would do if your CZ3D at 4 sens. goes as deep as your friends CZ3D at perhaps 6-7-8 sens. your machine is good to go and perhaps your friends CZ3D is tuned differently..I know Nasa Tom advises to set the CZ3D at 4 sens or perhaps a tad higher for max. depth and who cares if you go as deep at 4 as your buddy goes at 6-7-8 as long as the depth is there..Remember clean battery terminals or perhaps brand of batteries could be a problem but I think not as most CZ3D owners I know can't get their unit much over 4 sens. without an erratic unit and really believe your machine is working fine.. By the way with older CZ's I am a strong believer in running your sens. as high as you can even if its 5 or 6 as it equates to more depth and feel Tom is referring to the latest CZ's such as a 70 or 3D and actually some of the later 7A pro's won't go over 4 either but still go as deep as your average CZ. In addendum I seriously believe your CZ3D is set up to spec's and don't have a prayer why your buddies is not the same..

Two CZ's will crosstalk even at a distance from each other and even perhaps a football field away both CZ's will suffer from depth and stability even if not crosstalking so keep this in mind when hunting with a CZ buddy. I can't prove the last statement but read several interesting articles especially where two CZ buddies got superior depth and stabilty when hunting alone , but when they teamed up their depth and finds went down. Surely something to think about...Never had the problem as my buddy used a Whites..:stars:

good sence in your post Dan, but there are only 50 units difference in the two detectors, seems they could of not done a big change in such a few detectors ,and also it will not ground balance at all, even by a long time CZ user, thanks for your input .

John

I agree, but he always switched his detector off when trying to balance my detector or raise the sens .

I just bought a new CZ3D myself and never could get it ground balance either. I sent mine back to get looked at and will let you know what I find out. On mine, I would get what is best described as a pulsating high pitch interference sound, no matter what I did to it. I could not get it to stabilize at all. I should know something soon, I hope anyway.

Unfortunately with analog CZ's I have heard of units that would not ground balance and had it happen to me once also and in that case off to the shop for repair. I know once it lost the ability to ground balance it just beame erratic at any sens. setting. Sorry to say the Fisher tech's will have to fix this problem and hope its under warranty as it happened to me with a second hand unit and cost a bit under 100 bucks to rectify the problem and that was several years ago.
Good luck and either i misread your meaning on your original post or didn't explain it in your post. In any case if it won't ground balance by an experienced CZ user its a fact of life units do go down and in this case unfortunately its needs factory repair.

Thanks once again for your input Dan, been of great help, and the other guys as well,:clapping: who have contributed to this thread.

Hi Evertt,if you read the posts, you will see that was done, also my coil tried on his detector worked fine:detecting:

I got a call today, they are sending me a new one. My detector was defective and they are going to replace it instead of repair since I only had it 3 days. Good luck to all!
