Erratic noises

Hi all, in need of some help. I just got my AT PRO back from upgrade about 2 hours ago. I just took it out for a bit, was in a ball field. what I found was it is running really erratic and noisy in pro mode coins. any help would be appreciated !

First thing that comes to my mind is EMI. Were you near an underground/overhead power source?

Was the unit acting "erratic" while the coil was stationary or while it was in motion?

Did you try to reset the machine back to factory settings by holding down the mode button for 6-7 seconds?

Did you try lowering the sensitivity to see if this quited the machine?

Did you by chance hit the ground balance while the coil was sitting on the ground while over metal?

Since you're back to the house take your unit to the back yard and see if your still getting "erratic" behavior.

Hi Quarterhorse, No wires to be seen or power near there, The noises and erratic behavior was while in motion, I did not try to reset, but will try that. I did lower the sensitivity and it seemed to do the same thing. One thing i did notice it was in iron mask from the factory, I turned that off and it did quiet down but walked about 6 or 7 feet and it got noisy again. As far as ground balance I did hold the GB button and pumped it several times, but never when it was on the ground. I will try my back yard tomorrow, seeing that it is totally different ground.. Really puzzling.

Excessive noise in coil motion indicates issues/settings related ground mineralization. For whatever reason(s) the mineralization is not being properly handled.

Try air testing the machine. Like getting a 2 foot high cardboard box and place targets on top of it. And sweep them.

Excessive noise when a coil is perfectly still, indicates EMI issues.

Above info applies to all VLF detectors, not just the AT Pro.

Thank you for the info given will try these suggestions tomorrow and see if that clears it up. When I sent it out for the up grade it did not do this, Garrett gave me a new coil free because they said it was one of the first machines out there from kellyco. and they had falsing problems. But I did not have this problem till now. when I swing the coil, in a 4 foot path I hear approximately 10 sounds in the path of this swing one right after the other, I would say mid tones, Maybe in the 40 vdi range.

Hello TerraDigger, Found out what is was. When they ran it at Garrett the frequency was set at F3, I brought it down to F1 and it cleared that noise up. Thank You for responding to my questions. Happy Hunting and Have a Great Day !! Joe
