I don't know a lot about high octane beverages, but I think most brandies are refined enough they aren't as likely to spoil as, say wine or cider. Its my understanding that unless there is water incursion, the beverage will only get better with age and increase in value for being submerged. When there are flambe' type deserts, they are doused with brandy and set afire! Takes a pretty high alky content to do that and too the carburetion going on in the story would need potent fumes to work.
