Eric foster beach scan

Hello guys iam new to this site I recently bought a Eric foster super beach scan pi machine, which has never been used, I put some fresh batteries in and switched it on and all I get is a loud ding then just a continuous threshold hold tone but can't adjust anything and when doing a air test it won't pick anything up just a continuous hum, would anyone know what and why it is doing it and is there any where in the uk that could repair this thankyou Ollie
