Equinox #s in salt water ?

New member
I was wondering if anyone on the Gulf Coast or Southern FL. area could tell me what ground balance numbers they get with their Equinox in waist deep saltwater. I have hunted both areas in the past, and these areas have a more concentrated salt content than other areas farther north. Would also like to know how high they can run sens. and remain stable in waist deep water. Thanks, Mark

That # is going to change everywhere you go. Sensitivity number will change too because the salinity changes.

and if you have a beach with a lot of black sand

IMO, your conditions are going to change daily. Also your detector will be affected by moving Salt Water. I find the Nox does not fare well in moving salt water.

Everything gets noisy when the control unit is submerged and you have to reduce Sensitivity The book recommends you use Beach 2 when hunting in the surf. I usually run Sensitivity very high (19 - 21) in the surf and don't mind a little chatter. On dry sand I run 23 or so if I can get away with it. As far as I'm concerned, the high the better!

If you want optimal performance from your EQX, get in the habit of "dialing in" your settings on every beach you hunt to suit the current environment. There are no "set and forget" settings as the beach is ever changing. In fact, beach conditions can change within a few hundred yards and the same beach on subsequent days can and often does change also.
