I finally received my XS and put it together and since I have talked with everyone and been reading on it I with some confidence took it outside in the dark with a little street light in a yard that I found out to be loaded with hot rocks coal cinders and pull tabs etc.The neighbor said that the kids from back in the late 60's and early 70's use to throw pennies in her yard, what for I don't know. But I can honestly say this about my detector,I dug up one screw, one dime and 9 pennies 6 of which are wheat the oldest one being a 42 several where and the dime was a 53.It was nice to know that there was money in the old yard. what was neat to me was I used the quick start and checked the coin and the jewlery x'd out the crown cap and away I went once I hit somehting I looked at the screen and listen to the tone and I didn't dig when things where on the left and dug the things on the right.I dug one piece of junk,a screw but it was dark and I did get other readings in there that told me other wise.I dug my deepest penny at just over 6 inches because I wanted to measure this to see, everything else was at three inches.Side note the 6" find did have a little peice of some sorta metal in the hole it looks to be Galvanized and about half as big as a dime.I don't know if this helped the depth or not.The little pin point detector kellyco sent free with this thing is a cheap looking thing but it works ecspecially when working in the dark with a flash light, another side note some places I dug the ground was hot enough on top to set off the the pin pointer.
Needless to say I am ecstatic to say the least,I haven't ran a detector since 1982 or 83,and this is fun.I am going to use these factory settings and work from there.I believe this thing is like a turn dial lock it has countless setting for so many verying ground conditions and it just takes time to work thru them but I am impressed with the turn it on and go method.I also turned the thresh hold way down.Everyone is right lots of reading but I think it is worth it.This is turly the best on the Market. The coins are in bad condition because of the coal cinders and acidity.Happy Hunting I am hooked...Rick Vann
