Enjoying My Afternoon Coffee While Sitting On A Bench By The Beach

I watched a fellow hunter as he covered the sand at a normal walking pace with fairly long strides.

His swings were odd and I've watched others do the same thing, he started his swing about a foot above the ground and nearly touched the ground in front of himself and finished the swing about a foot above the ground!

He was swinging at a fast pace and as I watched he did a lot of digging, but mostly directly in front of him where the coil was closest to the sand.

I also noticed that the toe of his coil was tipped up and not parallel to the sand.

The machine looked like a Whites with a view screen.

Could this be a new way of hunting or did the fellow just not know how to hunt?

In his defence, he did a lot of digging and covered a lot of beach.

I have to wonder though just how many targets he missed!

GL&HH Friends,

CJ

"low & slows the way to go" ya should have walked behind him & pick up all the stuff he missed

Hey LA,

I worked the wet sand instead. This area is heavily worked and I only found a clad quarter (deep) and one penny (not so deep)!

I did clear out some odd bits of aluminum though and since I only had an hour to hunt, I wasn't disappointed.

GL&HH Friend,

CJ

I call that the "happy face swing", and see it often on the beach. Depending on the machine he was using, the fast pace may be OK. No matter what, the coil needs to be kept flat and close to the ground, even when working an area quickly.

Ah... the 'Weed Whacker" swing,
guaranteed to cover a large amount of territory while recovering the minimum amount of swag:shrug:
or as some of my fellow detectors say "looks like they are practicing their 'in the ruff' swing for the back nine".:yikes:
Sure, you can go fast with some of the units out there, like ones using a Bigfoot coil, but I'll bet gold to clad they don't get anything over 3" deep on the beach when working at NASCAR speeds, if anything at all.:poke:
I'll just poke along and take their leavings with my Excall and 15" WOT.:detecting:

Hi cupajo mate i have watched dozens of these type of swingers in my day and the best way to tell how much they are missing is watch their swing, what i do is when his right swing stops and he swings left then back right measure how much sand is between both his right swings ,i have seen swings of up to six feet ,goes to show how much these people are missing.I LUV EM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! terry in oz:ausflag::beers:

Hey terry,

It's fun to watch these folks with their "I'm all about seriously hunting the treasure I know is down there somewhere", look on their faces!!

GL&HH Friend,

CJ

Gudday Cupajo,
Our little secret is, go low and slow.
When I see those guys doing that, I can't contain myself
Enjoy the scenery as you swing and and enjoy the solid sounds of a target missed.
Cheers and HH
