England settings

Bill 525,

Headed to the great Colchester fields in a week and wonder what settings you used for the Coinstrike and Excel when you were there? Good lessons from your trip, have extra headphones and coil bolts!

Thanks,
Zeke

But I think they learned from that, & now has extra Grey Ghost headphones just in case. Also, don't bring a shovel, everyone leaves them behind & he has like 30 of 'em in all shapes + sizes. I just bring a ton a 9-volts, rainwear, & bags to fit over C$ in case it rains (always does there).
If you remember that picture of me with the hat on kneeling in that field I had the Coinstrike on a chest harness so I could swing all day without a sore arm & also utilize the 10.5" coil. If you don't have a big coil, your 8" will be fine (& may be better for those tiny Celtic pieces anyhow). But the fields are huge....don't get intimidated & hurry around. Pick an area you have a good feeling about & work it.........
Anyways, back to settings. You will be amazed that there's no mineraization in England. You can crank that baby up to 10 sensitivity if you want. Threshold can be 0, but I think I ran -5/-10. So, I would say a 905 setting or even a 1010 will "git Er Dun". It depends how comfortable you are with the C$. If you feel your getting fooled by iron, or it's chattery, just drop those down a little. Also, dig anything positive...even if it's jumpy. Small, thin hammereds will NOT sound like, or lock on a US silver coin. Gold can be under +10. Ask if you can test some small hammerd or a celtic under your coil.......
Good luck......go find gold (make us proud!) :D
HH, Bill

Thanks for the info Bill, the wife and I are chomping at the bit to get over there and see if there's any gold left after the past crews have done so well. That's about what I figured for the threshold settings but always nice to know from someone who's swung in the mud. We'll go for the gold!

There are hundereds of fields, & the folks that have already been there have barely scratched the surface as they are huge. It's there........
best of luck,
Bill
