Found another rental near the old neighborhood last week and called to get permission today. It was a lovely night for a hunt - overcast, temps in the upper 40s, and a slight breeze was blowing. This house had a 400-watt light in the backyard that made it very nice to see by, and I didn't even miss the light on the Propointer! House was built in 1952 and I found yet another one to hunt possibly tomorrow if I can deal with the rain...football is an alien concept to me so while everyone is watching that big golf game tomorrow I should be out digging coins
I started tonight in the usual 12 khz program and 4 or 5 swings into the front yard I get a surface "88" signal. Out comes this mangled coin which at first I thought was aluminum. It looked like aluminum, and after I read the "India half rupee" I really didn't expect too much. Dropped it on the sidewalk and got a "clang"...wait a minute, there's no way THAT was aluminum! Picked it back up and noticed it was a little heavy - turns out to be 50% silver!!! First coin is a home run and this seemed to set the tone for the remainder of the hunt!!!
Must have spent 2 hours in the front yard total and found probably 15 Wheats there, I opened up N2 from 57-77 to 62-77 hoping to catch some of those war nickels that don't quite read like their non-silver counterparts, but this hunt there were none to be found. Dug at lot of "60" and "61" signals that were pulltabs, Maybe I should just get rid of N2 altogether and tone-hunt since it is full tones, but the abundance of aluminum usually keeps me from this....By the front door I got a solid "57" both directions, and it wasn't coming off of 57 no matter what. This is a strong indication for me that this is either a coin or ring - this time it was an unexpected 1975 Icelandic 10 Kronur coin. Never know what will be next!
Ran across a sharp "89-90" signal near the exact center of the front yard and was hoping for the first silver dime of the evening. Instead found a lovely St. Theresa Cabrini sterling medal about the size of a penny. I'll take it!!!
Moving around to the well-lit backyard I found that the trash level was about the same as the front...dug quite a few bottlecaps tonight but it really doesn't bother me too much anymore. I know some people just HATE digging those stupid things, but around these houses more often than not there will be a coin closeby, masked until that cap is removed from the picture. Happens all too often! Hit a couple 6" Wheats back here that were mixed in with a beavertail, hard to fool the Deus HAHA...I was almost out of real estate when I get a soft "90" and then a grin. NO doubting that's silver...4" deep came a neat 1940 Merc, Twenty feet away I got a shallow "91-92" and found yet another bottlecap, rescanned and still had a "91" but it sounded so much sweeter...Merc #2 at only 3" was almost directly underneath the bottlecap!
Tomorrow I'm going back to the area and scouting for more rentals in the neighborhood. I could do this every day for 30 more years and not hunt 10% of the total houses available...the goods are out there, all you have to do is ask!
