Jkline and I hit a small hilltop park that was built near a water tower. Nothing spectacular, no tot lot, or playground, just benches and tables and flat ground. We both hit a few chunks of clad so thinking not hit real hard.
I had one find that indicated high nickel so went after it, it was showing 3-4” deep so just the hand trowel. I remember the area being built in early 80s and backfill was brought in to level the hill top. Maybe get lucky and get an old nickel I thought.
Up popped this small racing car about the width of a quarter and kinda weighty for its size. Looked like two pieces pressed together so I was thinking maybe lead. Put it in pouch and worry about it later!
Home, soak and check all finds. Jeff’s first thought was Monopoly game piece and so now is the wife’s guess. Cleaned up pretty good too! Started researching via Google and bingo, the little guy shows up under vintage game pieces! Race car not part of original 1935 seven count game pieces but added shortly after. I was able to get it placed between 1940-1950 and its pewter.
As jkline mused, “the random cool stuff we find”.
