Encrypted Ring?

A buddy of mine (Tom in Victoria) introduced me to this forum and advised me to upload a photo of a ring I found yesterday. Tom noticed a mark on the side of the ring which looks like a symbol of some sort: a horseshoe-looking mark with 2 small antennae jutting from the top. The ring is Victorian in age and the stone is a very nicely cut amethyst set in silver. Can anyone identify this symbol?
