Emulator Software

I was wondering if any of you use or have used the "Emulator Software" available for the SE Pro and E-trac? If you do/have, how accurate did you find it and was it of much value to you in learning the 'ins-n-outs' of your spicific machine?

I just purchased an Explorer SE Pro from one of our forum members, it will be on the way soon, but I read about how difficult the learning curve is on that machine. Any jump start I can get hold of to put me a step ahead of that curve is what I am hoping to do.

Thanks,
Don

Emulator Software can be found here as well as other places: http://www.thebeepgoeson.com/display...c_Emulator_ZIP

The emulator software helps you learn the functions of the detector somewhat. Your best bet is to get a hold of Andy Sabisch's Explorer/Etrac Handbook ... about $20 or maybe less if you look on FeeBay. Absolutely priceless information. I had a whole winter to look through it before my Explorer arrived, so I was ready.

Hey, Don...

I agree with McDave on Andy's book; it's a great help. Not sure if you are anywhere close by (I'm in central OK), but I'd be glad to hook up with you and show you what I've been able to learn over the past 6 months about this machine...

Dave,

The person from whom I am purchasing the SE Pro is also throwing in Andy's book. I have his book for the Safari I currently use and must say it is ten times better than the owner

Steve, I wish it were possible but I live in Virginia. Thanks for the offer though.

Don

Virginia? I'm jealous, Don. I am a PA native, and VA is one state I'd love to live it. We have some close family friends who moved from Pittsburgh and now live in the Richmond area; in any case, I love VA and you sure do have some old sites to hunt -- whether you are a coin hunter OR a relic hunter...WOW!

Don,

As many wise folks here have said .... the best thing you can do is start out with the "coins" settings that are pre-programmed right out of the box. And once you have a general idea of what the detector is telling you, you can advance to custom settings ... like Bryce's for example. I think I put a full week on mine in factory settings before I tried Iron Mask. Seemed to be an appropriate amount of training time. Best of luck & happy hunting !

Thanks everyone for your input. For now I'm reading up on the Explorer, I've installed the Emulator Software and playing with it. I have found that it helps to familiarize me with the machine before I get it. My family and I will be going on vacation to Myrtle Beach next week. I will not get my hands on the Explorer until I get back so guess what I will be doing at the beach? Right! Detecting with my Safari and studying up on the Explorer with the Emulator program and an on-line owner's manual.

Steve, Virginia is a great place to live and there are some great sites to hunt. I'm not into relic but, who knows, one day I may. When I do, there are some great Civil War places near where I live.

Take care and HH,
Don

[size=large]your learning curve should be shorter as you already have the SAFARI.
