EMI BETWEEN MY GARRETT PRO POINTER AND MY V3i

Anybody got any ideas about cutting down the emi between my garrett probe and v3i ? ive tried freq offset in all variations but if the probes within 3 to 4 foot it sends the v3i scatty and more to the point my v3i interferes with the probe too !! Its not a mega problem but i do like to keep my v3i within reach :)

Interference is common with many brands and makes of detectors and it seems the only cure I know of is to keep your detector an arms length away from the pinpointer when it is on.
 
When you are recovering your target try your best at pointing the pro pointer away from the V3.

If The noise is still unbearable just push the V3's Menu Button and when done Recovering your Target, just pull the Pin - point switch to Resume Hunting..
 
9 out of 10 times when the Pro pointer is turned on and on the ground while I'M recovering my Target, just pointing the pro away from the V3 will stop the Arcade gallery

I have gotten into the habit of doing this since the days of using my DFX and my Vibraprobe 560. I think putting the V3i in "pause" mode may also prolong the battery life of the detector, especially when spending a lot of time on those "hard to recover" finds.
 
Well, to be honest, I have never had this problem. I usually lift one side of my headphone off an ear to listen to the Pro pointer. I am really not paying attention to my V3 at this point, so it does not really matter to me I guess. I mean there never is an instance where I am using the Pro pointer at the same times as the V3. I have never heard interference between the them in the past so this does make me wonder if you are having issues with your coil or Pro Pointer.
 
I don't use the Pro with my V3i but I just tried it and I don't get interference. I always set my detector away from the hole when I set it down. Setting it were I set it for the DX1 I have no problem.
 
I dont have that problem either with my Garrett pro pointer and V3i.
 
So long as I have 3-4 ft between my GPP and my coil I have no problems with cross talk . Yazoo
 
I had that problem, and using the offset pretty much took care of it. I guess these machines are individuals to some extent.
 
Had that problem with my pistol probe and the v3i , I just try to keep the coil as far away as possible , if the gain is turned up real high and it still have problems I just hit the menu button like suggested so much easier to hear the probe and takes just a pull of the trigger to start hunting again. Plus makes since it would prolong the battery like already stated because its not sending out signal and giving u any audio.
 
Just to add my two cents.....I have 2 Garrett Pro pin pointers. I keep two on hand so when my son goes with me he has one to use. I never understood this but I get the same interference that everyone is talking about with one of the pin pointers but not the other. Figure that one out. I have gotten into the habit that several of you have mentioned with the menu button. As soon as I get a target to dig, I hit the menu button and then kneel to dig. Not only does that eliminate the interference, but it quiets the threshold hum and enables me to hear the pin pointer with my headphones still on. I also agree that it probably saves battery life.

Tried the Pro Pointer all this week, no interference.
 
If you wrap the pinpointer in tinfoil it tends to solve the emi problem as well. Of course the pinpointer won't work anymore either..but the interference will stop :)


Actually physical separation of the pinpointer from the detector coil probably helps. Unless the problem is induced EMI via electromagnetic transmission impinging upon the circuit card of the detector itself. Sometimes a poorly grounded guard circuit, or poorly sealed (grounded) enclosure admits EMI to the susceptible circuitry. I don't know if the V3I has a sleep mode or not, but if one is available that might work as well. (e.g. put the detector into a sleep mode)

I used to do EMI testing at one time on electronic circuits, and the causes of most issues in EMI susceptibility are poor grounding of susceptible circuits, or poor enclosure sealing (grounding of the seams of the conductive enclosure).

The other possible issue is the pinpointer itself is oscillating at a harmonic that the detector is sensitive too, this could also be an issue with the pinpointer itself if you have a buddy with a pinpointer, use his and check if the detector is sensitive to more than one pinpointer. (be best if it was the same make/model)

Hopefully there's a nugget of wisdom worth trying here.
