EMI and the V3

What is everyone doing for strong EMI? I have a spot by a hospital that is surrounded by electric lines and transformers everywhere.I have tried several combinations and get no real hunting depth with the V3.About 3 inches is it. About the biggest thing I have found to get it stabilized is to go into the salt frequency.I have used everything from a 5.3 to the stock 10dd.Best coil so far has been a 8 inch excellerator coil.Anybody with some thoughts on this? Thanks Yazoo
 
I'm surprised about the 8" Excelerator, Ireally liked the coil on my MXT but it was super sensitive to EMI for me. Dif you try the band filters. Rob
 
I'm having the same problem in various areas too. I cannot use it anywhere around my house and certain areas in the inner city around big buildings. Ive tried lowering the gain but didnt help much until I put it down to 2 not gonna get to good of depth with that though. I will try the other tips mentioned above. Thanks!
 
I have had very good depth under power lines with the two inch wide bidfoot coil from Jimmy Sierra. Not as deep as a regular coil but down to six inches in moist soil.
 
1) Try a band pass filter rather than the high pass filters
2) Try other Frequency offsets
3) Try single frequency (most seem to have best luck with 22.5k, but I've had the opposite)
4) Try correlate mode in 3 frequency
 
Have tryed almost everything mentioned above.The best I have found ,and is not that great is the Salt frequency.Yazoo
 
I hunted some horrible areas with my DFX alot. There were some places that had underground, over head and transmitted EMI issues. I was able to still pull up a huge amount of targets by using the Tone ID feature. At first it seemed like a lot of "work" but that went away and I had a lot of old coins in my pouch that people had just passed by. Getting rid of all EMI is not realistic (for many areas) but reapeatabe signals (to a "focus spot") still remain consistent. I'm still running with 1.0 and the high audio is tough to deal with in these "extreme" situations. (My toughest EMI situation,with the V3, doesn't come close to the areas hunted with my DFX.) After I do get the update to ver.1.3, it is going to be another learning experience in these spots! Will it be a picnic at first? Nope...I expect to deal with some "flys and mosquitoes" till tweaking to the horrible helps. (Even then, some stuff will have to be just gotten used to.) No metal detector takes away all the "flys and mosquitioes".

Most EMI is very huntable so hopefully this weekend will produce a few things in these same spots! (Going to take some wired headphones for sure!)
 
I don't believe there is any difference in the software versions that helps with EMI

It is just that it all coupled with the higher/minimum volume in 1.0, is a bit much for me. I have checked out the newer releases, and that lower range is better and these places I'm wanting to go to?...there will be some learning as it is absolutely horrible...but loaded! (Going to be soaking wet too!) I'm hoping to stick with the wireless as much as possible... as they are so nice... but am sure the volume control (on my wired) will help out a lot.
 
Ah, so you're saying that the extra chatter will be easier to deal with because of the volume issue with the original software. Now I gotcha! :detecting:
 
No Downdeep it won't do anything about chatter it just allows you to set the phone volume lower. It is a matter of comfort for some peoples ears. If you have EMI problems turn down the RX. I own an MXT and it is a super detector, with my V3, I have to ask what chatter? Rob
 
I was referring to the emi noise coupled with the inability to turn down the volume in the post by nw1886. Having to listen to interference and at a louder than comfortable volume would be cumbersome to deal with. I'm familiar with the fixes with each new version, none of which help with EMI.

I get bad EMI in some spots at my Local Beach, and found that just moving a 1/4 mile or so down the Beach, solves the Problem very quickly. As the EMI is just to strong to play with settings and Adjustments.
 
The only thing I haven't been able to adjust completely out yet is the pulse from an electric fence. Even worse in the mornings when the grass is damp, of course.
 
Exactly Dd. Just standing at this intersection, you can see old overhead, large service boxes for buried and transmit towers. (All while standing on huge humped parking strips...across from two major teens/twenties schools!) Hope I can keep RX in the 5 to 6 range and have a feeling the 5.3 will be my good little frien'. I also hope I find it to be as you say it could be Rob!! What a flippin' fun machine we have guys! I'll post after the hunt on Sunday.
 
There is two places I have never had luck with. This was with my IDX, and MXT. I haven't tried the V3 yet. One is by an old CCC shelter that has a huge transformer and a park district antenna next to it. The other is my daughters house which has power lines and a tall fire station antenna close to it. Rob
 
It is raining buckets today so that spot is going to have to wait for another day. Was really looking forward to it. Dernnabbit!
