Emerald Isle, NC BHID 300

Well, went to the beach for the third time ever with the BHID 300. First 2 times was Onslow Beach at Camp Lejeune, which is not the busiest beach around, therefore slim on finds. This past week, I went to a busier beach, namely Emerald Isle. Still no rings. But the BHID 300 has the potential, is mighty sensitive and I am getting accustomed to using it and knowing the capabilities. Just have to get a ring under that coil. It was slim pickins all around. A few coins was about it. I mainly detected the wet sand as the tide went out. Went out waist high and found a dime, but was pelted by waves and I had my electronic car key with me. I had to put it on my shoulder to keep it dry. Not good. I now bought a cell phone waterproof case for my sensitive items next time I go out. Live and learn.

That ocean will do everything it can to get your keys etc wet. I purchased a "Waterproof" container for keeping my keys, watch etc in while wading and it proved to be anything but water proof. It wasn't even water resistant. Ruined a perfectly good watch. I am glad that I did not put my cell phone in the container as I had planned. I would have been better off just using a ziplock bag.

Good advice. I will have to test it first to make sure it is good.....I can imagine one or two pieces of sand on the seal could be deadly.

Zip Lock bags are great UNTIL....

In Cancun a fellow detectorist used one but did not expel all the air from it when it was zipped.
He then put it into his goodie bag and went deep.
A few minutes later we saw it floating about 30 feet out to sea.
He gave me his detector and scoop and took the swim to retrieve the baggie.

Lesson learned. Not only does he use a Zip Lock baggie but he also puts the baggies into a zippered goodie pouch!
He has not had another baggies escape, yet!

I don't live near oceans, I have freshwater. What I do is leave all the electronics in the car. I open the gas door on the rear of my car and put the keys between the door and gas cap. Close the door and the keys are hidden. Of course make sure nobody is watching. You could put a hiding spot under the rear bumper etc.
