Embarrassing Hunt

I have been really busy and as everyone knows here in Texas, it seems to never stop raining. The grass is growing like crazy. I noticed one of my properties had a fresh mowed lawn and it was real close to home. I only had a little while to hunt so even though I had hunted this hard at least twice, I went back. When I got there I found just a small part of the Front Lawn was mowed. Not exactly sure which Coil I used the first two times, but I had to make a decision. Do I go with my Coiltek 5X10 or my 12X8. In other words do I look for separation or depth? Since it was pretty wet I decided my 5X10 would give me better than usual depth with better separation, so I hunted with it. I am embarrassed to say I missed all these coins in that one little area. I found a bunch more than these but they were not old and interesting so I only listed these Coins.

1-1942 Silver Dime
2-1942D Wheats
1-1944 Wheat
1-1950D Wheat
1-1920 Wheat

Embarrassing? No way.

Hunting from a different direction, using a different coil, adjusting settings or swing speed or even changes in the weather can all be the needed change to find a good target that has gone hidden for decades. Nothing to be embarrassed about.

Nice clean up! I have returned to places out of boredom that I swear I've covered every millimeter and been shocked with big silver coins. A million variables, shows what patience, changing coils, and persistence can do... Congrats on a nice handful of keepers.

I agree with Rich. I use different coils and I go back a bunch of times.
I even try to look for any paths that folks may have taken in the past. That helped me produce more coins and put a smile on my face a few times.

Thanks guys. Now that I have hit with a small coil maybe I need more depth.

The only embarrassing hunt is when one loses focus while detecting .....and steps into a large pile of fresh dog sh!t.:

That's nice hunting there. Like Mark said, for whatever reason we go back to places and find stuff, whether it be concentration, coil selection,etc....whatever it is it always happens. It's just proof that there is more stuff in the ground than we really think, and probably WAY more in some cases. It would be interesting to see if you can go back with a couple of tweaks and get even more out of there. I'm sure you'll give it a shot!
