Elite Speaker Volume

Bad Brad

New member
Seems over time that my external speaker volume has diminshed to nearly nothing. Turning up the volume all the way does little. Any suggestions? Also, how long do the 12V 1000mAh NiMH batteries last? I was wondering if it could be part of the problem.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

a low battery could be the problem, you should be hearing a quick wailing pitch every 30 seconds if your battery is running low and then a steady hum of threshold before it runs out.

remember the volume knob on the sov is a target volume, so I would ask, can you adjust your threshold to a higher level?

just turning up the volume knob should do very little unless your waving a target in front of your coil.

My battery is about 5 years old...thinking it may be on it's last leg. Even after a full charge, or what I think is a full charge, I get the 30 second beep. I guess I'm in for the $90 battery replacement...any suggestions for the best battery source? Thanks for your replies.

Read the battery threads in this forum. You can probably recover that battery by just draining it dead on a car light bulb. After the bulb goes out let it sit for several hours to make sure all cells are dead. If you have an aftermarket charger I would blast charge it at like 3C for 5 minutes or so, then charge the rest of the way at 1C. Drain dead again on a car light bulb and then charge slow, at like a 1/10C (10 hour) charge rate and drain once again dead. Repeat this slow charge/drain process say another 3 or 4 times and I bet that pack will come back to life for you. At least drain it dead if you only have the stock charger and then charge it on that five or six times and that might do it.

I have the original Minelab charger...it uses a special plug for the battery. I also have a couple aftermarket chargers for my cars (12V), but I'm not sure how to properly connect to the battery. Which connector is positive and which is negative? Also, what do you mean by 3C and 1C? I generally understand that batteries can be quick charged by adjusting the charging rate via AMP rate.

I like what you suggest...help.

C= capacity, ie on the sovereign GT battery C=1000mah,
to get amp from ma just use xx /1000
therefore a 1C charge rate would be 1.0amp(1000ma/1000=1.0amp), 3C would be 3.0amps etc. 1/10C is 0.1amp(1.0/10) i would give it more than 10 hours, at least 12.

I hope you mean your 12v charger is for Radio Control cars rather than a normal car battery as thats for lead acid,(i put that in as some might think o great i have an ordinary car charger and will try that)
If its a RC charger it should have a reverse polarity proteccion, either way you can check with a polimeter, charge with aligator clips on the terminals rather than through the plug as there is a thermister that will cut off the charge when things get even slightly warm or you try too high a charge rate and it won't fully charge

Using Critterhunters method i have restored numerous batteries including 2x XS2aPro, Excalibur and some drill batteries to mention a few.
