Elite Or GT

Tony in SC

New member
I am putting together a beach machine, straight rod, hand grip mounted pinpoint etc. I have a new Elite and almost new GT. I'm leaning toward the Elite because it's a little simpler and the pinpoint switch would only be two position. The pinpoint switch on the GT would have to be a three position. My question; Does the GT have any advantage over the Elite on the beach? Thanks, Tony

Let's assume (hate that word) that both are equally sensitive with whatever coils you have.

The GT tends to give you a better ID on weak targets, but on the beach you will probably want to dig any and all non-ferrous targets anyway. So who would care about it.

Have heard that if you wire it right and the all metal switch is left in pinpoint on the GT, then it should work just like the Elite. Again, no difference.

You did not say if you intend to hunt in all metal and push the remote switch for disc to check targets, or if you want to default to disc for search and push the remote to pinpoint.

Most of us live with the extra knobs and switches that we seldom or never use. As long as you don't bump the control panel, there is no problem on either machine.

If you have some bad beach, you might want to hunt in all metal by default. I don't know if the GT remembers what the ground balance is supposed to be when switching back to disc then back to all metal search, or from switching back and forth between all metal search and pinpoint.

On the beach, you don't really need to do a precise pinpoint anyway. You will be digging with a big sand scoop.

If it was me I would use the GT. The reason is I hunt in disc mode and only use the all metal to pinpoint with, so the one switch would be in pinpoint all the time as that switch is only active when in all metal mode. Another reason is I feel the GT is a bit more sensitive and the controls are in the correct position compared to the Elite and with the Elite the threshold control was easy bumped. Another reason is the GT has a switch for silent search if you ever need to use it, other wise I use the threshold.
Now if you hunt in the all metal mode than the GT has auto tracking or you can lock it while the Elite don't have any ground balance at all, so the GT will be better on the beach too if you like to run all metal .

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going with the GT, that means I have a new Elite for sale. Tony

That should make someone happy.

It never hurts to have more options .......just in case you might need them once in a while.

Take your time to figure out what is going to work best and go for it.
