Elephant Seals and Wheat's oh my
I went to our local park while I was waiting for the wife to get ready for a ride up HWY 1. I found a 1956 wheat and some regular coins. We went up HWY 1 and stopped at a place where there are trails and lookouts for the ocean. I tested the waters and found a 1936 wheat and some

The only thing we have that big around here are manatee. They don't leave the water. They will come over to you to be petted. They love to have their back rubbed. They will stay there till you get tired. I think they tell the other manatee about it and they come around to have their back rubbed.

Nice Finds Awhitster , about the only live things I find in these hills besides squirrels and rabbits are black bear and snakes. And there're not near as content as the seal seems to be. But I'm glad I haven't encountered one like the attached pic. found by another MD'er in another state. I think Texas or Calif.

[quote Uncle Willy]Nice finds and a great animal outing. The old feller looks content.

You can't beat laying on the beach soaking up the CA. sun with a harem of females around you. It don't get "no betta"

Yeah that's a ten foot Texas diamondback. Never seen one that big. Saw a lot of eight footers. That old feller could fill you with a world of hurt. I think it weighed 65 or 75 pounds. Can't remember. Hell he's big enough to knock you down with a strike.

I don't think it was a MD'er... My mother was
originaly sent that about a year or two ago from
someone in that area. I think it was near Amarillo, or
thereabouts in the TX panhandle. I think that guy works
around there, and found it, either that or someone found
it, and he was the designated snake handler...
There is also a grainy B/W version floating around,
but the one I got was in living until cracked across
the neck color..
I'm not sure, but I think that thing he's holding it with
is actually made to hold snakes. Maybe not though...
That picture is actually reduced quality to fit in the 120k
file limit.
The original is even better. Big file though.. That JPG
came out pretty good though. I think I used about a 60-70%
compression or so when I converted it.. Don't ya know
that thing could sink some fangs.. His head is as big as
that guys hand at least.. I'm glad we don't have many
of those around here.

Very much alive. Just laid up. If it stunk I wouldn't have been around it:detecting:
