Assuming that the sov. meter is measuring voltage from the coil back to the box, is there any reason that the meter couldn't be
used on other machines as long as the return wire is on the same pin numbers on the connectors. For example, putting it on a
GPX series which uses a 6 volt battery, would the meter reading be half of what it is on a 12 volt sov.? Or, no reason to do it,
but could it be placed on an Exp.?

The meter doesn't directly read the coil's output from the RX coil's pre-amp. It is routed first to the control box and then the box outputs a specific voltage level based on processed target response to the meter. The meter on the GT is very "instant" in it's report on targets, much more so than even machines which have faster processing speeds yet put the target ID through much more in terms of processing. Witness the slugish VDI response of the Explorer, and why those users rely more on sound that the VDI, which is greatly out of phase with it's audio output.
