Electrolysis on buttons

Hey guys,just wondering if it is O.K. to clean all metal with electrolysis,or if there were any metals to not do.I have a couple brass(buttons)from the CW I would like to clean a little better.

If you can post a picture of give a very accurate description of the problem with the button someone may be able to help. Do these buttons still have gilt under the corrosion?
