electrical interferance !!!

Hi all !!! my first post... My V3 arrived today ... I have been detecting some local fields with excellent results with my trusty XLT popping willie the 3rds and many good pre decimals over the last few weeks... today after spending the most ever on a detector i had a moment of sheer terror. after detecting for about five mins the V3 started going mad and sounded like a demented space invader machine, after a few minute of panic it became apparent that the overhead cables were seriously interfering with the V3. I was unable to use it within 50 metres of the overhead cables which is a major concern as i have never expierienced this with any of my other machines !!!. I would be most grateful for any feedback and any possible solutions !!...

Lastly i have been using the out of the box coin and jewelry prog and had to knock the RX gain down to 6 just to get the detector stable !!!
oh and the recovery speed seems a little slow !!! anyone else had these issues ???

Welcome to the world of V. Had the same thing happen when I first got it and almost sold it. Glad I did not, you have to reduce the gain on most of the programs if you are anywhere near power lines ,electric fences etc. I usually hunt in Hi pro with gain of 4 and still have no trouble finding stuff. This is probably the first detector that you have to reduce the gain on programs. Even with gain at 1 you can still find stuff 3-4 inches down.Give it a chance it takes some time to get comfortable with it.

The machine is hot and reductions are needed in EMI situations. Smaller coil is an option. Freq. offset. Still get good depth. Found a silver Rosie @ 6" in the middle of EMI hell.

Hi Mate

Had the same prob here with EMI (Suffolk, UK). Never had it with any previous machine (inc DFX). There is a transformer up a pole in the corner of one of my most productive fields, but it was an easy fix for me. From Live Controls, I adjusted Frequency Offset (I went to -5) and it just went away. I had no need to change Sens or Rx in my case. Let us know what works for you.

I don't use any of the stock programs but have my own ones (based on RELIC). I can run with Rx up to maximum and with Sens at 85 / 60 on my inland and pasture sites. Not played with Recovery Speed yet, but I am looking forward to more information on Sweep Speed, Filtering and Recovery Delay as I don't think I have it nailed yet.

Cheers.

Colin.

Colin, Sounds like our brothers in the UK are getting it done with the V! Great info! Keep us posted as some of the tough UK conditions do happen here occasionally. I have one close to the house and I have picked some good stuff out. There has got to be more!

thanks guys for ur comebacks !!!! i will be out agian this evening in the same field (hopefully with better results) will keep you all posted !!!

lastly :-- was most miffed that one of me mates who had borrowed a prizm 6t (i keep this to lend to people who have not detected before )
off me until his DFX arrives bagged a nice gold ring last night well i struggled like hell with the V3 !!!!

all the best rob

Larry had mentioned about correlate mode when you have interference on a previous post. I tried it and it REALLY helps stablize the signals. I like to run as hot as my machine will let me...and then a little more. I don't mind having a little bit of falsing if I believe I'm going a bit deeper.

Is there any data that can give us an idea how much depth we lose as we lower the Rx gain from 15 down to even 1, when the interference is high? I know the depth of my DX-1 probe is significantly lowered as the gain is turned down, to where it "doesn't help me much" in a hole.

well guys !!! DAY TWO .... i am really getting miffed now . I had a solid two hours tonight running over a small area about 50 metres square just to evaluate the V3 further. Firstly i feel i am now the proud owner of the worlds finest metal foil finder ever which i must add have shown fabulous camel humps in the analyse mode and very solid VDI numbers which i always dig with my XLT. I was able to detect pieces as small as half an inch square with absolute pinpoint accuracy down to about seven inches. everything else bar one modern 5pence piece eluded me completely with the 5p showing the very same VDI reading and hump as all the foil found. AAAAHHHHHHH !!!! have i been sold a pup ???? the field i was in we have been knocking coins out by the dozen over the last week using an XLT Prizm 6T and an old minelab sovereign.

all suggestion gratefully recieved !!!
