Eldorado

I was hunting some of our central Texas black dirt this weekend and was in some virgin soil, but wasn't getting any deep hits. This ground opens every dry spell with cracks a plenty. Back at the house I checked the performance of the standard web coil, with minimum discrimination I'm getting 8" quarters, 7" on dimes and nickels, but when you advance the disc to nickels, I get 4-5" on nickels, and when you advance disc to just above zincolns, i get 6-7 on quarters and 4" on dimes. For you other Eldo users does this match what you are seeing or do you think it's time for a service trip? I bought this used and have really enjoyed it, complementing my silver

Those numbers do not sound bad to me, especially if your air test is conservative.

Real world, it has been my experience that a lack of moisture in the soil can have a negative impact on depth. Some detectors are hit harder than others - unfortunately I don't have first hand experience with Tesoros under dry ground conditions.

Thanks, indeed mine doesn't seem off, especially when considering those numbers are with disc just above iron. I ran mine quite a bit higher. That chart is quite helpful.

As Sven chart shows, the Tesoro Silver

Those chart numbers are consistent with my tests on my Eldorado also.

It's fairly normal to lose some depth as the discrimination is increased. I'd be concerned if you couldn't detect a quarter with the 9X8 coil at 8 - 9 inches in an air test in all metal or with no discrimination. That seems to be pretty average with several of my Tesoros including an Eldo umax.

Well we just had 4" of rain so that should help. I really enjoy the Eldo, it discriminates excellent and the pinpoint is right on. The situation I was in this weekend could have been a case of cracks swallowing up the goods to a foot or more as well. That black dirt really contracts. Still have memories of a 6' plus snake crawling off in one when I was about 5 or so....I told my dad about it and he went over to the crack with a shovel and couldn't see where it might have gone.
