Eldorado or Vaquero?

I know I've probably have asked this question before but which one do you think is the best deep coin hunter in average soil conditions?

Thanks,
Ray(Ca)

The Vaquero is definitely the deeper coin hunter.

The best? That's another question and the answer depends upon your personal needs or wants for your type on hunting.

I have an Eldorado and like it a lot. In the past I was concerned with depth. Now I believe that increased depth means means increased problems in most of the conditions I hunt in. If I go deep it's not for coins and I have a good coil selection for different hunting preferences.

The Vaquero is able to hunt shallow, but again it's a question of your preferences.

HH,

If it were me, buying new, the V for sure. A nearly new or a good buy used, wouldn't shy away from the Eldorado. In fact I have one and am quite pleased with it. Also, in my case, I have a very good selection of umax coils so if buying another machine I'd seriously consider all the models compatible with them. Am contemplating a Cortez in the future for that reason, among others. Good luck and happy hunting, whatever you decide.

I think you will find that the Vaquero will do the best job for you.

Even though I use Eldorado, I would love to have a Vaquero. That is a sweet machine. Goes deeper than the Eldorado.

HH,

Does the Vaquero frequency select serve any useful purpose other than competition hunting or when hunting with a fellow user?

[size=medium]Ray, I still haven't encountered any source that can clearly define what "average" ground is, or where it might exist. ;)

That said, I will say that I got very good depth with the Vaquero using a 5

conditions would be considered mild as far as what I have I have experienced. The good coins here at most of the parks are 6 inches and deeper and the place where I regularly hunt the coins are at 8 inches plus. I used a XLT for many years and took many coins at the 8 inch level with the stock 9.5 coil. The soil is black and seems pretty mild to me. I hunt in Hawaii on the land (red dirt) and I would consider that bad ground. About 5 inches max with just about any detector on a coin is the norm. If you crank it up it just gets noisy. I hunt mainly parks here in the bay area and I mainly hunt for deep coins and don't hunt for jewelry. I would like a light detector that has some punch.
