Eldorado arrived.

The Tesoro Eldorado i bought from a fella on Craigslist arrived today and i think this is going to be a keeper. It is going to take me a while to learn how to do the ground balancing right, but it shouldn't be too bad. I tried it out in the yard on some coins, a small nail, .50 cal. lead ball, and a small .33 gram gold nugget. I buried the nugget at about 3" and it picked it up with no problem. And man does it sound off on coins. And in disc mode with the disc all the way down it ignores the small nails but hits real hard on coins. Can't wait to get down to the river and give it a try. May not find any gold but it should still be fun. Need to at least find a bit of clad with it to pay for all those AA batteries it takes. Man, 8 of them at a time to run it.
BTW: this is the older original Eldorado with the large Metal control box mounted under the rod.

Rebel1:

Congratulations on the Eldorado, sounds like keeper to me:thumbup:

I'm one of those guys that prefers the oldies, got a couple of Bandidos and an Inca.

The Inca is a little older than the Eldorado and does well in the iron nails.

Yea, i may have to hang on to this one. I had a Sidewinder before this but i never did care for it. I liked the Compadres i had. But this one just may be around a while.

Hello there. I am new to this forum, use the name Dixiedigger 57 on another forum. I have a big box Eldorado, I got it in 2000 from a local. Christmas from wife and kids. Boy is it a great unit. I have directions I keep with me to tune though. Always have trouble with that. Machine works great, a little heavy. I have a friend that keeps two of them, in case he breaks one. Relic hunter, he is good. I use a hip mount because of weight, and bought a extension cable with pins and water proof connection. In fresh water sand it is a killer. Silver finds are good signals. I have found baby earrings. You will not find a more versitile land and freshwater beach machine. Happy hunting. ps the Amigo I have one, and Compadre, a friend has, are good to check out an area first, and then hit with the Eldorado. Or do what i do, get physically tired swinging the Eldo, and go lighter with Amigo at end of day.

DD57, yep, the Eldorado seems like it is going to be a good one. But i may have to see about the extension cable so i can hip mount it as it is a bit heavier than the Compadre and others. Welcome to the Forum.

[size=small]You have a good machine there.
Just remember to run it on low discrimination or no discrimination.
The higher you turn the discrimination the more depth you will lose.

Going to take me a while to learn the ground balancing but just need practice. I have been running on All Metal with no disc at all. Course that was in the yard trying to get used to it. I haven't had a chance to take it to the river yet. Maybe tomorrow.

Hey Rebel1, what coil do you have? I have only the widescan. If you hunt water, it is a little hard to submerge. I know they made a smaller coil. I have never asked if anyone has used a spider type coil, or will one work on it. I know there was a weighted coil by someone. I got the cable with waterproof connector to hunt at freshwater beach, but the widescan floats up and is hard to move around in water, especially without weight of box on other end, because i hip mounted it.

Carey, i have the 8.5" Widescan on it. I was told by Tesoro that any of their standard 5 pin coils will work on it. So you could get a 4" or 5.75" coil for it. I am trying to find the cable extension to use it as a hip mount.

Thanks for that info on coils. Trashy area where I live, aluminum tab and screw caps from the slummers that took over old town. Even when they leave, and it is rebuilt, still got trash where we look. The big coil is great for the open lands, but in-town lots, a small coil is better. Got my extention cable on line ten years ago, but don't know where now, lost paper. It looks like phone line cable. Radio shack might have connectors. waterproof part is a plastic clear tube you can buy at lowes by the foot in plumbing, kinda like aquarium line, only bigger, and had a split piece of gum rubber to wedge in each end. not really completely water tight, but dunk resistant. Plastic bag and good old duct tape would work for that. I have often wondered if the longer cable has any effect on signals, does it weaken or distort them? silly question but curious. If you need a manual, i have one. By the way, it is actually good on batteries, long life. I use rayovac or energizers. My C and G wildcat vintage takes 12.

Carey, not sure where you are but if there is a Lowes store there they have a good deal on batteries. I just picked up 100 AA's yesterday. They are an off brand but seem to work good and only $19.97 for 100. I found an extension cable at Metaldetectors.com, but they are $30. Will have to wait for a while. Take care and good hunting.

GA boy, Warner Robins, mid state below Macon on map. work in Macon, that dump of a disaster of a town, retired cop, now defense investigator for state public defenders, make the new generation cops do it right! Macon real historical town but trashed out, broke, decayed, dwindling to ghetto slum. shame. hav a manual for the eldorado if you need one. Be careful the cheap batts are not the nickel chloride, they are not reccommended for detectors.

Carey, yea, there are a lot of the Old Towns that are turning out like that now. Has to do with what the population consists mostly of now.
Thanks for the offer on the manual but i have the manual along with the original Bill Of Sale. And i will check the batteries to see if they are the nickle chloride. Thanks for the tip.
