Edging

I am new to water hunting and using a PI machine. Please tell what is meant by edging and an explanation as to how to use edging......Coach

Coach, I don't see anyone answering your question and I don't know if this is right but I'll take a guess. Sometimes when one is digging a large deep hole in the sand, the target will sink so deep into the hole that it can't be heard it anymore if the coil is still flat on the surface. At this point some hunters dip their coils at an angle into the hole and still get a signal with the coil's edge which lets them know that they should keep digging.
I think the practice is more useful to those with certain discriminating detectors. They search in "all metal" for maximum depth then switch to "discriminate" and "edge" search when they dig a little closer to the target. I don't think a PI user needs to do this. Hope this helps! HH!

Thanks, Goldak.......Just experimenting around with turning the coil and using only the edge, I think it might help PI users when pinpointing. Thanks again.....Coach

I suppose it's easier with a smaller coil. I use a DF with a 14(?) inch coil so the hole would have to be pretty big to do this. HH!
