Edge question

I've just gone through my first set of batteries in my Edge and at would like to know if any other Edge users are experiencing constant tones while they search. I am finding things and realize that that you must sweep a target multiple times and from different directions. I get false tones every couple of sweeps which change and in addition to being very annoying, I'm worried about missing targets with so much noise. I've set it at: Disc 0/Sens 5-10 and in factory preset old coins with no change. I just moved on from a 1266 which is the only machine I've ever used prior to this one. Any ideas and/or advice...just don't think I can get used to the constant false tones (I'm not sure what else to call them).

I don't experience any falsing like that. Perhaps you ground balanced on/near a piece of metal or your in a very mineralized or trashy area? If you sensitivity is up near 9 or 10 that may be too much. Start off with sensitivity of say 4 or 5 until you become more comfortable with what it's telling you. Your going through a big change coming from a 1266x & it will take some real patience & trial & error....
good luck,
Bill

Are you runnings any notches, and how much iron discrimination are you running?

Helllppp!!! I'm really frustrated with it right now. It works fine at and around my house but when I try to use it at a battle field and camp about 45 miles away, it's just off the scale. I've been leaving the disc at 0 but have varied the sensitivity down to 3 with very little improvement at which time I stop picking up a mini ball at about 3 to 4 inches during an air test. I haven't been using any of the notches and have tried the old coin setting also with little change. As I search with it, it gives constant and continuous false tones (with ever changing number values) and I can even place it on the ground at which time it will sometimes continue to give tones that change along with variable number values. I continuously check the ground balance. I've had my wife check the area with my 1266 to insure there is no trash and that I'm not misinterpreting a hit. My 1266 and a friend's Nautilus can operate in the same area at near or max sens so I don't think it's a mineralized soil problem. Thanks to you and Bill for the responses.

Vlad, Got your reply and tried to ground balance that way with no improvement. I called Fisher, ask for a tech, and spoke with Jerry in detail about my problem. He zero'd in on the fact that I could place the search coil on the ground without moving it and would continue getting various false tones and numbers. He feels I'm getting some form of radio interference from that particular location. Regardless, I can't use the machine to it's capacity in that area which is my primary hunting spot so I'm getting rid of it and buying a CZ 70. I do appreciate the input from you and Bill.
