Edge and coal

catclan

New member
Greetings:

As a newbie, I have a question about hunting in an area with cinders. I'm hunting in my large yard and finding burnt coal, does anyone have any suggestions regarding the settings for disc and sens? It seems like I get a lot of different readings around them. I lowered my sensitivity to between 3 and 6. Any advise?

Thank you,

Regina

I don't deal with cinders or what they call "coke" in my area, so maybe someone else can answer too? What numbers are you seeing exactly? Low ones like maybe +6 & such? At times our hot rocks here will ring off that way, sometimes even up to +12 especially if they are wet & more conductive. Dropping sensitivity should have helped some. Here's a few addtional "tricks" I have used on the hot rocks here. They may be worth a try?.......
1) turning yourself around & sweeping again from several different directions can cause the (+) reading you saw on the first pass to dip into a (-) ID & you can move on.
2) using the Pinpoint pad at times makes stuff like a hot rock signal just vanish....
3) if those don't pan out, & your coal reads low & your looking for mostly coins, you can use a preset like "OC". Or if the coal is reading a (+) under say +12 you can just set your discriminate to +12 and therefore silence 12 & under objects.....
I have taken some of our pesky rocks back home to experiment with how they read & how they can be best handeled. Maybe you can do the same?
good luck,
Bill
