Ed---How Often Do You See Alligators Where They Should NOT Be !

With 400 miles of fresh and salt water canals we used to see quite a few in the early 90's. Now there are lots of houses built which destroyed their shoreline habitat.

I remember when I was getting ready to go under my dock to install some electrical lines. I had everything all laid out and ready to go. Looked into the canal and saw a 6 ft gator floating there looking hungry staring at me.

I called the 800 number to report the gator and was asked, "Well has the gator tried to eat any children or pets?" When I told her "No", she asked me, "Well what's the problem then?" I replied I needed to "get into the water to go under my dock to do some work and there wasn't enough room under there for both me and the gator."

She told me to leave the gator alone and call her back when the gator did attack someone or something and then she would send a trapper.

I went and got my potato shooter, loaded up a nice hefty spud and shot the gator right between the eyes from about 10 feet away. The tator splattered into a gazillion pieces. The gator looked at me as if it was saying, "Nice try, what else you got you want to show me?" ..... then lazily swam on down the canal. I called a neighbor over to sit as lookout on the dock as I finished the job.
